Bump:
How this is going to run (depending on what you guys think...):
There will be a round-robin, which will feed into the seeding for the subsequent KO rounds. :)
In the RR- a win gets +1, draw gets +0.5 and a loss gets 0.

Timing limit
We'll cap it to a period of 2 weeks. If you don't get games done you automatically get recorded a score of 0. (Or if you planned to vs them but they never replied you get a free win, i.e. a forfeited win)

In the subsequent KO rounds, we'll cap it to the top 8, to prevent this going on forever. 8)

(Special thanks to Rui for literally turning an incoherent and totally hair-brained plan into something 1000% more logical :) )

Time Control?

15 minutes with 10 sec increments
10 minutes 5 second increments

or are we playing 3 minutes with 2 second increments. Those are generally the most popular time controls

For the RR phase, I plan to make time control up to the players, because there isn't harm in doing so. There will, however, be defined controls (TBD) for the KO phase.
If it's too problematic then I'll make it RR 15/10

We'll play rapid for the KO phase, not blitz. So no 3/2. As for the specifics that I'll think about again later because I actually planned 15/5.

The important thing is that, upon evaluating the premade tournament mode in lichess I have deemed it UNSUITABLE for our purposes. That and insanipi would prefer a RR phase first, which I believe is fair if we have 14 players (too hard to go straight into KO cause 14 is not a power of 2).

Expecting 14 players to all be free at a certain time slot is just too much of a hassle, since this isn't being formally held at a venue.

The opponent's king has nowhere to go because you trapped it with the two queens, the black bishop and the king

Since it's their turn and they have no legal moves left, it's a stalemate.

What if it moves to 5D
