Process of Acquisition?

Explain the process of acquisition? How does it relate to classical and operant conditioning?

In classical conditioning, the neutral stimulus (NS) must be presented with the unconditioned stimulus (UCS) numerous times in order to become the conditioned stimulus (CS); all these trials make up the acquisition process in classical conditioning.

But what about operant conditioning?

In operant conditioning, acquisition essentially involves the establishment of a behaviour by pairing it with its consequence - reinforcement

In the acquisition process, we can reinforce the learner in a number of different ways. Acquisition is generally fastest when reinforcement is given following every correct response - continuous reinforcement - although the conditioned behaviour will be more readily extinguished. We can also reinforce the behaviour after some correct responses, but not all of them - partial reinforcement
