Casual Chat - Cluttering the VCE (and HSC?) Board

Hey

I've noticed many new threads on things along the line of "are you double jointed" etc.; I.e., casual forum chat. I'm personally all for it, and appreciate the willingness of members to share their opinions and enhance the forum's fun factor :)
However, I've noticed that these are beginning to clutter the VCE board (from my perspective), and I would personally prefer if such casual chat could be set to only appear under the "show unread posts since list visit" index or perhaps they need a new index?

What do others think of this?

Thanks

Just to clarify: do you mean that general discussion is seeping too much into the non-general discussion forums? :)

I think he's talking specifically about the games?

Or 'clutter' in terms of the recent posts section? Cos i'm looking at it right now and have to agree (in that regard). Similar story with the 'show unread VCE posts' part.

There's a place for these sorts of threads, but the dominance at the moment pretty much gives zero highlight to genuine academic-related content.

Edit: Speaking of the 'show unread VCE posts' section - why are uni threads being shown there (e.g. UoM General Chat)?

Yeah this magically sums it up. I just think it's a bit distracting to be in a study mindset and wanting to check the 3/4 question threads etc., to be mainly presented with threads on non-study stuff.

Totally understandable. Hopefully it gets resolved for you (only admin can do this). Fairly sure this has something to do with the categories that are being included as part of the unread list.

This is the link that you go to when 'show unread VCE posts' is clicked:

https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?action=unread&c=44,21,3,11,4,43,20

E.g. that #11 corresponds to the universities category and #4 is the general discussion category... so I don't get why they are part of it.

Definitely something we'll look at addressing (to my knowledge it would be a developer thing over an admin thing to make that change) - We're in the middle of looking at the way the forum is structured and perhaps doing a bit of a refresh, so we'll definitely look at getting a system in place that makes it easier for you guys to keep the non-academic discussion separate if you want it! :)

Yeah, I think this is an important point - and we'll look into it.

Thanks for the feedback, TheAspiringDoc. :)
