Sorry to be brief (on my way to bed) but it wouldn't be in STM as the wordlist would be about 20 words long, and it wouldn't be echoic as the words are being attended to.

No, the words at the start have left our short-term memory as it has been longer than 12-30 seconds (Depending on book used) and have been transfered to LTM like you said.
The words at the end are still in STM, the only processing occurs in the echoic memory is the raw processing, so know understanding is associated with it, not until it is transferred to the STM is it able to be understood. Echoic is only 2-4 seconds.

STM only has a capacity of (5-9), and therefore only the ending, lets say in a list of 30 words, the ending will be in STM. While the beginning can be recalled through the LTM.
