Another friend: "2140 is more mathematical stuff. eg. net present value, cost of capital. it was pretty easy. 2000 - I think easier than 2140 cuz it's the basic of finance."

One more friend (re: afc2140): "I liked it, it was really interesting, I'm doing adv corp finance now."

Not so many people I know have done AFC2000... sorry I can't get more opinions on it... see... AFC2140 counts towards both the accounting and finance majors; AFC2000 only counts towards a finance major.

*If* I decide to pursue accounting and finance double major, I'll be taking AFC2000 in 2012.
I'll decide after I come back from exchange whether I want to take Japanese further, or take on finance instead... I'll probably compromise and end up doing "minors" in finance and Jap with the space left in my degree.

Edit: A mod less lazy than me should probably merge my posts, if they feel like it.

thanks for the info
ill most likely go down this path too, i know i want to do some finance units but i also want to do jap

just one last thing, is it better to specialise in a specific area or to get a good foundation understanding in a wider range of areas?
reason being i dont really aspire to go into any particular field/industry, id be happy to just get a semi-decent job in something relating to commerce

The structure of the degree basically forces you to either double-major, or do a major and two minors.
This is coz of the requirements to do a certain number of level 2 and level 3 units as part of your degree.

This point aside, I don't really know... I'm pursuing things I find interesting.
I think both Japanese and finance would prove useful to my career aspirations, so I'm just going to go with whichever I enjoy studying more.

Some people say there are 'good' combinations - accounting & finance; economics & finance; management & marketing; management & business law - pairs of areas within commerce that seem particularly amiable. Thing is... this makes such combinations popular... my theory is that it might not hurt to stand out from the crowd a little bit... I might be wrong though... I've really no idea what the masses of commerce-industry employers prefer... *shrug*

how much does knowing a foriegn language (in particular jap) help in getting a job in commerce areas?
i know most ppl say it helps, but does it help as in it just looks nice on ur resume or are there actually decent advantages to having that knowledge?
