Honestly... the GAT is just something that you cannot study for in depth. The next best thing would be to look at past GAT papers and get an idea from that. Its overall significance is quite low.

don't..............It doesn't really count for anything unless you get sick and miss some exams so you are better off studying for your actual subjects.
Having said that at least try in the GAT in case you do get sick.

Hey, Srd2000. :) Is this your first time sitting the GAT?
It's a weird thing, really. Overall, I feel people underestimate it. As noted above, it can play an important role in particular circumstances. But at the end of the day, if all goes according to plan, it won't actually affect your ATAR.
I'm probably in the "it's not worth studying for" camp, but absolutely in the "try your gosh darn hardest during the GAT" camps. It makes no sense to me to not try as hard as you possibly can during the three hours (or whatever it is) - I mean, you're there already, so you might as well. And in the unfortunate circumstances that you do rely on the GAT come the end of the year, you don't want to have previously shot yourself in the foot.
The past GAT papers is probably a good idea if you're super keen. :)

How do you go about the two essays?
For the first essay, I'm still unsure what the right way to "present the information given" actually is, and how you'd link all the info together in a logical flow.
And for the second where you present your point of view IIRC, is it supposed to be a persuasive essay or an opinion piece?

For the first essay on the future, I structure it like a TEEL (Topic, Evidence, Explanation, Link) essay. Nothing real fancy, nothing real boring.
The second one on celebrations, I did an opinion piece on why one of things was wrong.

The great thing about the GAT is that you have a lot of free licence in terms of the way you want to write! As long as you address what they want you to, you can write anything. I don't remember following a strict structure for my pieces in 2015 or 2016, I just let the words flow, started new paragraphs when I felt like I needed to and all that :) seriously, it's not like it's an English exam that you're getting marked on. But make sure you try to mention the theme for the year in your writing somewhere! It's good for a laugh. In 2015 it was 'the Cat in the GAT', and I think last year was Shannon Noll iirc??

You're the first person I've ever seen say "I want more!" in relation to the GAT :P if you're a keen bean, you can go do past GATs but seriously your time would be better spent doing literally anything else. The GAT is sorta like an IQ test almost, and it's really one of those things you can't study for. Just concern yourself with trying when you're in there for the real deal :) apart from that, use your time more wisely by studying for your other subjects.

People studying for the GAT... the question has to be asked, could your study time be better spent?
The answer will usually be yes - it could be better spent on your Year 12 subjects that will actually count towards your ATAR in a major way.
