I know it is to do with the layers and how the formation of the layers can be influenced by natural elements such as water and air. And that The layers of rock are formed by Sediment transport and deposition
Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is deposited out of air, ice, wind, gravity, or water flows carrying the particles in suspension. This sediment is often formed when weathering and erosion break down a rock into loose material in a source area.

^You've got the right idea, but this question is specifically asking about interpreting the profile. To answer it you need to know that strata are made up various layers of rock (not just sediment, although the top three in this profile appear to be sediment). There is a specific order in which these rock layers form - the oldest layer is at the bottom, and the younger layers form on top (although this can sometimes get flipped after formation, but you don't really need to know that for VCE). The assumption that's being made when interpreting the profile of this strata is that the stuff closest to the surface is the youngest, and the stuff below it is older.
