The ERC (Eastern Resource Centre) Level Three (also accessible from the ground depending on where you are) has comfy chairs, and it clean and neat and nice-looking. It is located in the eastern precinct, next to Frank Tate (which might also be good), and near Alice Hoy and the engineering buildings.

There aren't too many spots at the study tables, so I guess whether there's space depends how busy it is. Also, the have awesome comfy/squishy couches that are good for "resting your eyes" in between nearby tutorials.

For the record, I don't really study there; I prefer study carrels (i.e., non-communal study area), but I like the couches.

The entrance at 172 is what you want

4 hour gap? wahhh?

I think the more pressing question is what to do with a 5 hour gap. :p

If I had 4 hours, I'd go and see a movie every week! In my sole gap last semester, I just went to Rowden White and watched Frasier. Hmm.. perhaps finding a place to study would be a better use of my gaps.

Heh, yeah. Studying (that long) is a bit of a stretch. I end up going to Rowden White to read/Baillieu to borrow a laptop and surf the Internet, or work out who has a break and annoy them.

Anyway, I no longer have breaks, so I don't have to worry about that anymore.

intro macro lectures are waggable, everything is ONLINE :D and if you have nilss as a lecturer, the notes are quite useless! So my advice is, just read the textbook and listen to lectures online (if you need notes, there are post lecture notes with notes on them.)

You're supposed to be in the student union, but no-one checks.

Edmund, they've never checked to see if I was actually a member when I entered that room, so I'm guessing yes (well technically no, but you know what I mean).

nak, don't make me feel bad. I can't go to uni that day just to attend the other lecture. :(

Oh, no no no. They have a schedule that they play on tv (various anime, tv shows, movies). The only thing you can choose is to listen to records.

This year so far, I've only studied twice on campus at Melb Uni :S :S :S Other times, I would be hanging out with friends.

Last year I studied at uni quite a lot.
I studied on the third floor (music library) of Ballieu library because it was the place where they always had free computers :P

I have tried studying in the Engineering Lounge on the first floor of the Old Engineering building but there are always people talking loudly there - I think the Engineering Lounge is a place for socialising rather than studying.

There's plenty of great studying locations. Just like to know which ones are yours.

Whenever I have an hour or 2 gap, I usually go to ECR (engineering computer rooms) on the first floor of the old engineering building. I dunno why, but I like to be in front of a computer when I study. I know its not a good habit, but I'm just so used to it! But now I feel like finding a new studying location because ECR can be so freezing sometimes (colder than outside! cos they turn on the bloody air-conditioner! even in winter!). Preferably somewhere comfy, computer is not necessary, and not noisy.

Thanks ppls!

Where I study depends on where I am and where I have to be next! Form my experience the down stairs area of the frank tate is really good because its like a non-formal lounge area (great for if you want to read). The upstairs of the Ballieu is good because you can speak (I have been told off a few times in the down stairs area - yes for talking), in the maths and stats building library is good for if you only need to answer questions from a text book, ECR is ok (only if you need to use a computer), the old engineering building is the best! You have space to do anything related to maths, science or engineering (and you can eat in there).

I have 3hour breaks for tuesday - friday and a 2hour break for monday.

Is the ECR open to all or just the Engineering students?

I've been there before. There's no checking of what course you do. So I guess it's open to everyone.

study at home.  Uni is for having fun! (And I only have like 3/4 'spare' hours at uni anyway)
