A Stresshead's VCE Journey :)

Hey to everyone who ends up reading this!!

I've been reading a lot of other people's VCE journal's and decided I'd do one too. It seems like a good way to look back on my thoughts, feelings and times during VCE years, so I thought why not give it a go!

I'm currently in Year 10, doing 2 VCE unit 1&2 subjects, which are biology and Math Methods. I'm trying to decide my subjects to do for next year, with only a week left to decide. EEK! I'm thinking of doing eng language, chemistry, biology 3&4, specialist maths and Physical Education (PE). I also need one more subject but I can't seem to decide what to do with it being between japanese, accounting, physics and psychology. None of these I desperately want to do, but I can't seem to think of any more options.

Anyway a bit of random info about me:
I'm doing online school/remote learning at the moment because corona has shut down all schools and probably for the rest of the term too! (Obviously you all know this, just putting it in for when I eventually look back at this). I LOVE science, maths and sport. They would 100% be my top subjects at school, hence why they're in my VCE subjects. I also love sport outside of school and love being active any moment I can.

Upcoming Assessments:
- Biology Unit 2 AOS 1 Test: This is in a week. I'm a bit stressed out because I probably should've started studying sooner. I've only made it half way through Q Cards and I still need to do practice questions
- Biology SAC: About half way done. Going to try finish tomorrow even if it is a bit boring, but still need to do it :)
- Japanese Writing: Tbh I don't even know what this is on, but its also in a week. I missed the lesson where it was explained, so slight issue there. I'm going to try study a bit over the weekend, but let's be honest here, that probably won't end up happening. WHoops!

Thanks for reading if you're still here!

Hello and welcome to the journals !!

Re subjects next year: Just be aware that I'm pretty sure you have to complete methods 3/4 either alongside or before specialist maths 3/4. We are doing pretty similar subjects and interests (I love sport, science and maths too! Do you play any sports?) and I hope you enjoy them your VCE subjects next year :)

Don't worry about procrastinating too much, you are only in year 10 and in the world we are living in right now we all need a break.

Hii and thank you!

I accelerated in Math Methods unit 1 & 2 this year, so my school allows me to only complete specialists unit 1 & 2 next year. They don't want us to repeat methods and potentially lose another subject we could've enjoyed. However, we do have to do both methods 3/4 and specialist 3/4 together in year 12.
I do karate and volleyball. What subjects are you doing right now and do you play any sports? That's true, I just stress more than I should. Hopefully doing this journal will calm me down a bit ahaha ;D

Oh that makes sense sorry! Just wondering, does your school not allow you to take methods 3/4 in year 11?

I am in year 11 and the subjects I am doing right now is Maths Methods 3/4 (I did 1/2 early in year 10), Further Maths 3/4 (picked this up without the 1/2), English Language 1/2, Chemistry 1/2 and French 1/2. Next year I plan on doing English Language 3/4, Chemistry 3/4, French 3/4 and Physical Education 3/4 :). Outside of school I play netball and do diving but in school I do lots of sports (Cricket, Volleyball, Hockey, Athletics and Swimming). I also did Karate for 6 years.

I can definitely relate with the stressing thing. Something that I find helps is going on walks in nature and listening to some good bops ahaha

What are you most excited for next year? New subjects, co curriculars?

Hi Eloise,
No unfortunately my school doesn't allow us to do methods 3/4 in year 11. They said that it just didn't work well, and didn't really give us an explanation. A couple of us actually wanted to sit the class unofficially, so we'd have a good understanding of methods 3/4, but that wasn't allowed either. So for now, I'm just doing specialist maths next year. How is methods and further 3/4 going for you?
Yes I agree, finding time away from studying and school is so important. That's why I like sport too, its such a good way to de-stress while enjoying it too.
I definitely excited to go back to school, I'm sick of sitting at my desk all day and I miss my friends. I can't wait for the athletics carnival as ours got cancelled this year. I love this day and doing lots of events, even if I don't win its so much fun. I'm also excited to continue our school volleyball team as I was part of that before our training sessions were cancelled :-\ What about you? Are you excited for year 12 next year? I can't believe how fast high school as gone, I know the next 2 and half years will fly by.

Hi Rose  ;D
It's great that you are doing 2 VCE subjects and still managing a work-life balance! Bio is an amazing subject and I'm so glad that you're doing it. What is your favourite topic in Bio and what are you looking forward to for 3/4?

Heyy :),
I wouldn't say I necessarily have a favourite topic at the moment. But I'm really interested in the mutation side of mitosis that could potentially develop into cancer. I haven't looked much into unit 3/4 yet oops, so I'll definitely have to look more into it!

Methods and Further are going pretty well for me :) We have finished the content for further so its just getting started on practice exams now which is super exciting. I like further a lot because the concepts are simple which is a break from my more challenging subjects (methods, chem, french). Methods is also going ok but its a bit hard at the moment remote as it is a class for me that I need to be in irl. We are pretty close to finishing the content (YAY FINALLY) and then I want to make a dent into the HUGE amount of practice exams I have. Overall they are both pretty enjoyable classes 8)

I am super excited to hopefully get back into sport as I have played anything since September last year due to a shoulder injury and having to get surgery. I am most excited for hopefully leading my Diving team for the last time and the last house events. It's sad that so much got cancelled this year but we did have our House Aths and Swimming which was nice considering they are my favourite events and I was House Sports Captain. I cannot believe I am going to be in Year 12 next year. It feels so surreal that I am closer to graduating than starting Year 10 which felt like yesterday. It will definitely be bittersweet for me because I love my school and all of my friends so much  :'(

I wish you well for the rest of Term 3. We are past the half way mark (at least my school is haha) !!

Hey everyone, just me again!

Not much has happened since I last did one of these posts, but then again its only been a week. I haven't found online learning too bad lately, but I would definitely prefer to be at school. And lockdown might be extended too! I can't wait until life is normal again. Some of my friends and I called last week for about 7 hours, just a tad extreme. It was so good to talk to everyone again, especially since messaging just isn't the same. I also did one of those letters, where you write to yourself and it gets emailed to you in the future. I'll get mine next year on my birthday. It actually helped me reflect a lot on this year and everything going on in my life. I recommend :)

My subject selections are also due tomorrow and I still haven't made up my mind yet. I only need 1 more subject! My current choices are Eng Lang, bio 3/4, chem, spec maths and PE. I think I'm either going to continue doing Japanese or try accounting. Does anyone know anything about those??

I got my methods 1/2 sac and test results back yesterday. I'm so happy with how I went! Hopefully I'll can keep it up ;D I also had my biology aos1 test today. I found it quite hard tbh, but hopefully i still went okay. I answered all the questions so yay!

Thanks for reading :)

Heyy everyone! I'm back at it with another entry. I totally forgot atarnotes was a thing, so it's been about 2 months since I've posted anything, so thought I'd do a life update. I'm currently writing this to procrastinate and avoid doing my biology prac and math methods work. But I promise I'll go do it after this (maybe)

So I'm back at school now for my unit 1/2 subjects, much like everyone else doing VCE. It was so good seeing some of my friends again and ACTUALLY interacting with people that aren't my family. I genuinely have missed school so much (I couldn't stand online learning). I'm a very active and outgoing sort of person, so I loveddd being able to go out.

Honestly, there isn't a whole lot going on with my life at the moment. Got a few tests coming up. Still doing my sport training over zoom every day (I would pretty much die if I didn't have this, it's definitely better than nothing). I really hope corona is over soon though, a normal life would be amazing. Mandatory masks are okay, except the fact that I can't breathe properly half the time (asthma issues :P). Overall, this year was really good for growth and a change in my mindset to be more positive. In that aspect, I've changed a lot and strive to live the best life I can.

I've also decided that I'm going to take a gap year or two after highschool. The main thing I really want to do is travel, especially Europe. I also just finished watching Emily in Paris with my mum, so living in Paris looks like a dream. I've sort of lost track of what I want to do when I'm older as I just really want to live and experience life.

Anyways, have a good week everyone!! ;D
OVER AND OUT :)

P.S: If anyone can help me think of a better journal name that would be amazing!! Getting sick of mine oopsies
Edit: Just realised that I don't think I'm able to change it lol

Hi again,

So I have exams next week and I'm fully not prepared at all. Honestly I can come up with so many excuses for my lack of studying, but mostly its procrastination. This year has definitely drained me, so I'm blaming 2020 on my lack of motivation.

Anyway, here's a little bit of a rundown of my life rn and my subjects. I'm back at in person training again and omg have I missed this. I didn't realise how much this impacted my life, and I missed the sport and the people I train with. Honestly the highlight of my day whenever I go to training. Also, you definitely won't be able to tell how unprepared and stressed out about exams I am (sarcasm btw ;D)

Biology:
Recently got my AOS2 test back and I got 83%. Pretty happy with this actually :). Except my teacher told the class that one of the chapters wasn't going to be on there, so I didn't revise it. And guess what, there was questions on that chapter. I have my biology exam on Monday and I sort of know the content. I just need to continue going over it and do practice questions. Hopefully it goes okay.

Maths:
I know I'm a weirdo, but maths is my favourite subject right now. I absolutely love it. Probably because I decently know what I'm doing in it and am fully organised for the exam on Tuesday. I have so many practice questions to do over the weekend and I'm actually so pumped for them (again major weirdo over here), so gonna try ace this (mini celebration for my enthusiasm ;)). Also, I've kinda misplaced my calculator (that I need for the exam) and have no idea where it is. I'll update if I find it

Edit: FOUND ITTT. Realised I moved it into another bag I used for school last week ;D

English:
Not good. Not good at all. 2 hours for 2 essays. That's all I have to say. I've never done this before, majorly stressed. It took me over 2 hours to write one comparative essay and then another 2 hours to write an ALA essay. Um what

Japanese:
Honestly, this could go 2 ways depending how much I study. Our teacher told us what the structure of the exam was, and it seems like HEAPSS in only 80 minutes. Oh, and I'm officially never doing Japanese again after these next 5 days. My teacher keeps trying to convince me to keep it, but I've officially made up my mind

Anyway, idk if anyone actually reads this, but I hope everyone has a good day and good week. Stay sane through exams  ;D

Hey Laura, thanks for your reply! Hopefully they all go okay, I've never done this many exams before so we'll see how this goes.
I'll make sure to do something else other than studying. Good luck with your exams (if you have any) ;D

Hi everyone!!!

I'm glad to say that we've all finally reached the end of this year Christmas is right around the corner  ;D and I can't wait to see my family (haven't seen them since May!). I'm so excited for the rest of these holidays and my classes next year. My plans for the holidays include going out with friends, baking, beach days, skateboarding and continue watching 'How I met your mother' with my mum (I highly recommend). Anyways, I thought I might go through my classes for next year (after doing orientation).

BIOLOGY 3/4
I'm definitely both nervous and excited for biology next year. I have definitely realised how amazing life is and when something happens I connect it to different bio terms. I think my appreciation for this subject has grown, so I'm hopefully going to enjoy it more. For orientation, we just covered plasma membrane info and started practice questions on this. I plan to start unit 3 this holidays to try get ahead, so I don't freak out next year when I don't know as much as my classmates.

P.E 1/2
I can't express enough how much I love P.E so far. It's already one of my favourite subjects cause I'm so sports orientated currently. My teacher is amazing and my class only has about 11 people. It just keeps getting better and better ;D

CHEMISTRY 1/2
Chemistry does seem really interesting, but will definitely has a lot of work for the subject. I already have a test for it in the 2nd week of school (yay me)

SPEC MATHS 1/2
Once again, tiny class with only 8 people. The orientation for this class was so fun and such a chill environment. I have my best friend in my class, so obviously we're idiots together.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE 1/2 & ENGLISH 1/2
English Language seems good so far and it's definitely different from any other subjects I've done before. English in general has never been my favourite, I prefer to read for fun in my own time rather than having to analyse books. For English, I have the same teacher that I had for year 10. We covered so much in our orientation and I felt like my head was gonna explode in the end, so we'll have to see how next year goes :P

Anyways, I'll fill you in soon with everything (probably next year). I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas, New Year and good time in general:)

Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 30 days.

Oops yeah I know I know... just a bit inactive :)

Anyways, here's a rundown of everything happening right now

Summer Holidays + Extra Life things:
Honestly I had such an amazing summer holidays. It was so nice to have a break from everything associated with school. I went to the cricket BBL for the first time and actually understood the game by the end of it - lowkey proud of myself cause all I knew about cricket is that you hit the ball and ran back and forth. I also got my L's over the holidays. I've officially done an hour of driving so far and let's just say I'm pretty terrible. I continued training over the holidays and did a 4 day training camp at my club, and although I was very sore, I really loved it.

I've also managed to stay organised with majority of my subjects and balancing them so far, which is a goal of mine for this year. I've also been reading more lately. Current read: The invisible life of Addie Larue. I've only just started and I love it so much already. For any readers here on atar notes, I definitely recommend it.

School:
It's been 4 (now 10 as I go back and finally finish this) days of school and I feel like I'm swimming in homework. The shift between workload between year 10 and 11 has massively increased.  I've also decided to make the most of my opportunities and go for both class captain and house representative. I ended up getting vice captain, which I'm super stoked about. We haven't voted or heard anything on house reps yet though. Swimming carnival is also coming up soon, so hopefully it doesn't get cancelled even if I can't swim to save my life (ok I can swim, but I'm just really slow).

BIOLOGY 3/4:
Biology has definitely become my favourite subject this year. I really enjoy the content and find it interesting, so I'm really motivated to do all the work for it. I don't have a SAC until about week 8, so I want to be really prepared for it. From what I know so far, it is based on 2/3 pracs that we do leading up to it. Fingers crossed it goes okay ;D We also had a plasma membrane mini-test last week and I got 93%. I ended up changing my answer for one of the questions, and my first answer was right oops. My teacher seems really good so far, and apparently she wrote the study design, which is always a good sign. We've gone over the content so much and I've barely had to revise as it's just implemented into my brain now.

SPEC MATHS 1/2:
Spec Maths is another of my favourite subjects. My class is so good (only 8 of us) and my teacher makes the class really enjoyable. I have a test in a few days on the first few chapters. I did chapter reviews today and I'm going to go over partial fractions and do the practice tests tomorrow. Our test has to be done during online learning, but I feel pretty good about the content right now, so I'm not too stressed :D

CHEMISTRY 1/2:
Chemistry is a lot to remember, which I was definitely warned about. I don't really understand some stuff in class, so I always have to go back over it after school. It just doesn't stick in my brain if the info is read out by the teacher. I'm going to go over chem stuff tomorrow for our practice test coming up soon though. I really want to do well in chem and stay up to date with the amount of content

P.E: 1/2:
I know I've said this like 50 times, but another one of my fav subjects. My teacher is great and pushes everyone in the class. He constantly tests you throughout classes, which definitely helps. I have my first SAC in a week, so I'll just continue revising and do practice questions. I must say it is really fun to tell random people the bones and muscles in the body

ENGLISH 1/2:
Sorta meh about english as it's never been my favourite subject, but my teacher is really nice and enthusiastic about everything. I have a creative coming up in a few weeks, so just trying to come up with ideas for it.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE 1/2:
Honestly what even is english language at the moment. My teacher seems a bit all over the place ngl. I could barely tell you anything we've done in class over the past 2 weeks. I'm a bit behind on my metalanguage definitions and need still to memorise them. I sort of regret doing the subject as it isn't as interesting as I thought. Maybe that'll change once metalanguage is out the way though. I was first drawn to the subject by the way languages came about and were formed, but I don't think that is until the 2nd semester. I may potentially end up dropping this to pick up methods 1/2 after semester 1 if it fits my timetable, just to be prepared for unit 3/4. But I want to stay positive... it's only been 2 weeks, so being negative isn't the answer.

Anyways, that's all from me ;D ;D
