My advice would be to learn English writing techniques. For persuasive they could learn anecdotes, facts, opinions, rhetorical questions, etc. For creative writing oxymoron, hyperbole, synecdoche, imagery, simile, metaphor, personification, etc. Then they could learn how to properly use them in order to achieve a well-written essay or creative piece. IF it's an analytical essay for school, what helped me was using verbs such as showed, demonstrated, displayed, validated, proved, manifest, etc. I realized that an analytical essay is mainly based around these verbs and using them effectively and properly really helps your essay sound sophisticated and formal.

Another common piece of advice for creative writing is to show not tell. Describe everything you're writing about to make it sound more sophisticated. If it's a scene that you're describing, make the character tell the scene and how they felt. Use simile and metaphor so that the reader can get a clear idea about what's happening.
