Title: What's your handwriting like?
Post by: Joseph41 on June 11, 2019, 04:59:21 pm
Messy? Neat? Block? Cursive?

Feel free to upload photos - perhaps of the standard "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" if you have nothing else. :) I'll upload some photos, too.

My experience - super neat through primary school and early high school. Always got given the scribe job for group assignments/activities as a result lol. Was quite meticulous, took great care.

Later on in high school, I started to care less about how it looked and I guess more about how functional it was (in terms of speed for notes etc.). Through all of Year 11, I wrote in nothing but block letters. Not really sure why, was just a habit. Changed to cursive (kinda) in Year 12 because it was much quicker, no regrets.

Now, and especially because I don't write physically as much, my handwriting isn't that flash. When I'm writing notes to myself, it's practically illegible to other people.

How about youen? :)

I have two different styles of handwriting depending on how bothered I am/my mood/the situation at hand.

The first one is where I'm actually trying to be neat.
It's not the best, but it's a lot more legible than my second style. All the letters are really rounded, and are often wider than the average person's letters. My a's are basically o's with a tail, but numbers are well defined and look pretty nice. Basically writing letter by letter, no cursive at all.

The second one is where I'm not bothered/exams or whatever, which is most of the time.
I've been told that you've got to make a serious attempt to read my writing by family members when I write like this, but I don't get legibility in exams. So  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ , basically it's totally fine. I'm don't really want to upload a picture (the shame of exposing my handwriting to other people :o) but basically it's like the first style, but a lot more slanted because of the way I hold my pens when writing fast, and a lot more cursive linky things destroying what you can actually read. And sometimes I deviate to scribbles that are basically wavy lines if I'm rushing. That's when no-one can read it (eg. that one time I wrote a speech in primary school and couldn't read my own writing) :(

Looking forward to some serious handwriting goals photos :)

Since I have started teaching, i've had to resort to block purely because my handwriting is terrible. I've never had good handwriting.

Is there a term for 'normal' handwriting (e.g. uppercase letters A and a lowercase letter like an o with a tail at the end)? Where i'm not teaching, this is my main handwriting style. I don't do and never have written cursive.

Perhaps my handwriting has become worse as I mainly type nowadays?

this may sound weird but for me it depends on what class I'm in and my mood.  ( good/happy mood = good handwriting.   sad/sick mood = shit handwriting or typed notes (lol) )  and I always write in block. cursive makes writing look messy.

For my fav subjects like Chem and Psych my handwriting is amazing (no joke) best handwriting you will ever see. Im my other subjects if I'm feeling good and everything my handwriting will be fairly decent.

For the duration of this semester while I was in spec maths, my handwriting was trash, I couldn't read it ( how bad it got  :P ) mainly cause I gave 0 ****
and whenever my teacher would come and check my book she genuinely seemed fine about it ( which was weird cause it was terrible) guess she knew the motivation levels dropped.

I guess the only reasonable explanation my handwriting is good, is because my parents made me start writing at a  really young age                                     ( before primary school)  and by the time I was in year 2 or 3 (forgot) I was the first one in the year level to be given a pen license.  :)

been doing that job for every assignment since start of high school  8)

I actually prefer when teachers write in block compared to cursive on a whiteboard, only because cursive ends up looking like a bunch of squiggly and      wave -ish  lines. Where as block is neat and precise

Huh you say your handwriting is terrible, I wonder if you've ever been criticised ?  ( surely not)

Yeah, I have, many times. Most of it is just stupid banter with the kids but even I recognise it's bad so you know... what can you do.

It's why I mainly just do powerpoints now - eliminates the need for the kids to decode. :)

A mix between messy and inefficient. Regardless, it's still the neatest it's ever been haha

My day-to-day "nobody needs to see this but me" writing:

When I was younger my handwriting was absolutely horrible. I'm convinced the only reason I ever got my pen licence is because my teacher gave everyone theirs when she left half way through the year.

My handwriting has gotten much better over the last few years, but still bad enough that it got brought up multiple times during parent teacher interviews lol.

This is my normal handwriting at the moment, it gets significantly worse when I'm trying to write fast or I'm tired though.

I can write neater if I want, it's slower though so I don't do it much. I have to separate my letters and words to make it neater, my letters begin to increasingly resemble squiggles with loops when I'm writing fast

My history teacher told me that he felt sorry for the "poor VCAA examiners" who had to deal with my handwriting. I have to agree.

This was one of my history practice essays from last year:

And here's my handwriting if I actually tried to make it legible.

Feels. I was the only kid in the class to never get his pen license and have been illegally using pens for a decade now ;D

I always write with the page turned 45 degrees clockwise. It's a very bad habit I adopted as a kid and now I have got to live with it lmao.

And this is why I now type my notes at uni ;D

They should just angle their screen a little and it'll be fine :P
(I used to intentionally write on a tilt by angling my page but I fell out of that habit)

I often write with a slant haha, but I'm a big fan of cursive handwriting. I also had my little whiteboard handily next to me! :)

My handwriting is neat when I have time. Messy when I don't (i.e rushing to finish q's on tests etc).
I also write on a slant but defs not cursive.

My handwriting is quite interesting, it is a mix of cursive and print writing, all at once :). I think it is like this way because when I was in late primary school, the teachers taught us to write in cursive, then as high school progressed somehow I went from cursive to a mix of both ??? ??? But overall it's not too messy! ;D
