How do cells know which regions should be classed as introns or exons

Are the inputs of glycolysis glucose, 2NAD+, 2 ATP, 4 ADP, 2Pi

Or why do some say it’s 2ADP + Pi
When saying where glycolysis takes place would cytosol be more correct than cytoplasm

During glycolysis Aren’t 4 molecules of ADP converted into ATP

Hi,
In terms of animal hormones, why is there a need for hormones that are long polypeptide chains and hormones which are just amino acid-derived and much smaller? I understand that lipid-based hormones are there so that they can freely pass across cell membranes, but why is there a need for two types of hormones, both of which are made from amino acids?

Hi Acegtr,
Animal systems need to carry out many, many different functions and so need many, many different ways to transmit cellular signals. Remember that the tertiary/quaternary structure of a protein molecule determines its ability to bind to certain receptors/substrates (and therefore its function). Animals need differently shaped peptides so they can bind to different receptors -> promote different cellular responses. To fulfill the need for these different shapes and functions, some hydrophilic hormones will be long polypeptide chains, whereas others will be single amino acids.

Hey

Is this VCE bio knowledge?

The control and regulation of carbon dioxide concentration levels in arterial blood is due to the
A. endocrine and nervous systems.
B. nervous system.
C. endocrine system.
D. diaphragm muscles.

What would be the answer and why?

Thanks

Nodes of ranvier are the spaces between sections of axon wrapped with myelin. Because myelin creates an insulating layer that prevents ion flow. The action potential  “jumps” from node to node thus speeding up transmission down the axon.

How will the action potential be  affected if the nodes of ranvier are closer together?
A action potentials will increase in amplitude
B action potentials will travel faster
C action potentials will travel slower
D action potentials will decrease in amplitude

Would it be c

Not relevant to the current study design but yeah that's the answer they'd want

Mitochondria are not classified as part of the endomembrane system. Why not?
A they have too many vesicles
B  they structure is not derived from ER or The Golgi apparatus
C they are not involved in protein synthesis
D they are not attached to the outer nuclear envelope

Wouldn’t all the options be wrong none of these are really the reason why they aren’t part

Oxygen diffuses from blood cells down its concentration gradient. As cells become more active and the rate of aerobic cellular respiration increases, which of the following will occur?
A the concentration gradient for oxygen decreases and less oxygen will move into the cell
B the concentration gradient for oxygen increases and less oxygen will move into the cell
C the concentration gradient for oxygen decreases and more oxygen will move into the cell
D the concentration gradient for oxygen increases and more oxygen will move into the cell

Would this be d

Yeah d is correct as the cells would be using up more oxygen when active so there would be a greater difference between intracellular and extracellular oxygen concentrations.

I'm not completely sure on this. After googling it looks like both reasons of: the function being different (doesn't exchange materials with endomembrane system organelles) and the structure being different (not connected with other organelles) comes up. This makes me think it's either C or B. This quora thread has good info, but i still am unsure which letter option would fit the best, maybe check it out and see what you think.

During initiation during transcription does helicase unwind a segment of the DNA double helix and then during elongation the RNA polymerase unwinds the rest of the DNA

Hi, I was wondering does anyone have any unit 1/2 practice exams or their actual exams they did for it. I would appreciate it very much. Either send here or on private thread. Thank you :)

Many SACs and practice exams are copyrighted and can’t be distributed on the forum so it would probably be better to ask your teacher

Which of the following statements about osmosis is not true?
A a red blood cell in hypertonic solution may shrink (cremate) because of osmosis
B cells can regulate osmosis by regulating the number of aquaporins in the cell membrane
C osmosis occurs only in living systems
D a red blood cell in hypotonic solution  may lyse because of osmosis

Would this be c but doesn’t diffusion occur in non living and living but osmosis is only in living systems so all options are correct

Can large populations have low genetic diversity?

Thanks
