Should I do this subject?

Hi, my school is doing a 3/4 informatics and software development course and I was wondering if I should do it? I really want to get into programming and am interested in doing it at uni but I have very little experience...

Yes absolutely! I'm not very familar with informatics but even at the 3/4 level software development is very accessible. Particularly if you're interested, definitely give it a shot. If you know, or can find out, what language your school does you can have a cursory look at introductory stuff online. Most of the languages that are offered have a lot of free educational and supportive materials online.

Because you have a choice between the two, pick software development! If you're interested in doing it at uni, that choice would be most beneficial (and also the fact that Informatics isn't that great; very dry in content and probably won't help all that much with uni level programming concepts).

In my Informatics experience, my teacher guided the class on Microsoft Access, Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, Excel, etc. (on this note, Informatics is less programming oriented too) on the assumption everyone in the class knew nothing about them. So, I can presume the SD study design is constructed in a way that also has your teacher guide the class through the very basic foundations of the language they use regardless of experience level.

I agree with www's comments.

Pick SD over Informatics, unless you want to drag yourself through the mud through the entire year. So so boring. At least SD is somewhat relevant still.

RE: programming -> most SD teachers will use something like VB or some outdated language (I think Python is better, if you were wondering). Honestly, programming takes a long time to understand and get right. So if you take SD i'd find out before your summer holidays what language is used and what resources are available to you so you can prep.
