Chinese SL
« on: October 24, 2020, 11:11:36 am »
Hey! I was wondering if someone would be able to give me a couple of tips about how to approach exam study for Chinese? I'm pretty confident about my oral in a couple of days but am aiming for a 40+ mark. How do you practice to get full marks in reading and listening sections (I know the whole exam's pretty different this year). I'm also aiming for an 18/20 in the final essay.
Thanks!

Hello!
I am in Chinese second language advanced and our teacher has reiterated the difficulty for second language this year since they got rid of the translation part.(which is usually the forte for second language students) However the good news is the translation is still there! It is incorporated in the reading + listening (section B)!
In regards to improving upon listening, I would recommend getting your parents or siblings to read aloud sections of your chinese textbook and dot point the info. Then translate it into English! It doesn’t have to be long and keep it under 3 minutes. (Try to practise this EVERYDAY)
Some key takeaways from listening and writing:
-  In section B with reading and listening, they will repeat some information in both material - be aware, this info is def important
- be very mindful of words including numbers, weights, time and location.
-read the question very carefully!! This is so so important, and our teacher can not stress it enough. Be patient, what puts you apart from others is the nitty gritty parts.
Now moving to the essay, I wouldn’t say I have ~perfected essay~ but I do get 18/20, it really depends on what type of essay you want to target on. However the general points I can offer is to
First perfect on structure, then incorporate strong language ( proverbs and the fancy 四字成语)

If you need specific advice for essay then please feel free to ask the type you want to target on.  :)
