Here it is. Go nuts!
EDIT: Attached Version 2 of the exam. The previously attached one had a typo.
Mod edit (pi): Added solutions to main post
-
Thanks for this. Excited to try it out! Where can we get the answers to it?
-
Will put up probably tomorrow, I want to make sure there are no errors.
Actually, could someone send over their solutions before I release mine? I want to make sure that there are no errors. :D
-
I'm sure everyone here will agree with me in thanking you and luken and others for putting effort into making an original exam. I'm sure someone is already on the way to sending over the solutions.
-
I don't know if I can get the solutions out by tonight, but I'll run it through Wayne and Matt at school tomorrow? If you haven't already given it to them.
-
Nice name :P
-
Good job Thushan, I clicked the respect button and it jumped form 0 to +4 within 20 seconds of viewing the post :)
-
Here is a pdf version of it, gives it more of a professional look :)
-
You should really put the statement "This trial examination produced by Thelson Publications is NOT an official VCAA paper for the 2011 Chemistry written examination 2." There is something about the "thought" behind including that line in the Insight exams that really makes me laugh...
Thanks for the exam!
-
Don't forget to thank luken93 as well!
-
I deserve no praise whatsoever :P

LOL ;D
Moderator action: removed real name, sorry for the inconvenience
-
Good job guys, will add it to my long list of exams to complete! :)
-
Dr. He exam Yesterday
Crazy wings today
this will have to wait until tomorrow
-
Stickied. Desu desu desu desu.
-
Thushan were you still going to try and make the Atarnotes A+ cutoff? :P
-
Lame idea, but we should get everyone to find a place to do the exam under strict exam conditions with Thushan and Luke as the examiners :P
-
Yeah, should do that! Will make a poll.
-
Man I can't wait to try this exam but I haven't done any trial exams yet and our school hasn't even finished the last chapter yet but I kind of learnt it myself.
Is it a good idea to do this trial exam first or it doesn't matter?
-

Thanks for the exam!
I remember you talking about this after our spesh trials! what is with you and noticing these intricacies? :P it's so superfluous of you to notice :P hahahah!
-
Doesn't matter. :D
-
Just had a read through it, wow, nice exam, loving the 6 mark question on the production of sulfuric acid/ammonia/ethene/nitric acid though!

Sigh. I find it hilarious that Insight would include such a statement. It implies that some students may actually think that the trial exam made by insight is the REAL VCAA exam of that year. Why am I the only one who finds this so funny.. :'(
-
NOTE ON TRIAL EXAM:
Q6f. I was meant to write Pb2+ not Cu2+!
-
This exam puts every other exam I've done so far to shame :'(

LOL! hey, i found it funny as well, i laughed with you in class today :P bahaha!
i don't think that funny is the word to describe it per se, but it's definately a comical inclusion - yes i know i contradicted myself when i say it's not funny but it's comical, hopefully everyone knows what i mean (A)!
-
I am in absolute awe that year 12 students could make a practice exam of this quality which tops many commercial exams that you have to pay a decent buck to get. Thank you Mr Nelson and Thushan ;D
-
Thanks for this exam, lookking forward 4 more challenging exams if you some.

I don't mean to be rude or pushy in saying this at all. Are the answers here or somewhere else or not done yet? :)
-
Hey guys, sorry about the delay in solutions. Just wanted to doublecheck it with a friend before they are released.
If there are any qns or I messed sth up just PM me :D
Solutions are here:
-
Chucked in Version 2 on the first post. First version had a typo.
-
Just to bump the exam after Eddie's lecture today, this was/is the exam!
And as for the person in the crowd that co-wrote the exam as Eddie so annoyingly pointed out :P , clearly he didn't have a halo above his head, so that was me, not thushan :P
-
Just tried the chem exam and boy was it a doozey! Multichoice was fairly straight forward, no problems there but Section 2 question 2 part c) I'd left blank x_x.
Loved the Ecorus question. Very inventive and interesting. I actually enjoyed doing it. The rest of the exam wasn't too hard, I managed to work through it alright.
Thank you so much for that :)

Thelson VCE Unit 4 Chemistry Trial Exam Solutions
EDIT: just go up four posts.
-
thanks man ;)
-
Great paper! Some interesting questions such as the Nernst equation part. Thanks! :)
-
hang on, what is this Nernst equation? is it even on the course?
-
Nup, not specifically. They won't expect you to know things outside the course, but they can introduce things outside the course and explain them in the exam, and expect you to use knowledge from inside the course to explain it.
So in the actual trial exam I explain what the Nernst equation is, and I give an introductory question before using it to test understanding.

do you have other trial exam papers such as tssm, neap, lisachem,... as well?

Yeah, we shouldn't really be distributing copyrighted material sorry!

Is it just me, or the suggest solution is completely messed up, a lot of the answers don't make sense or line up with the exam e.g. question 1 a's answer does not answer the question of 1a

The solutions line up with the questions but this is a practice exam for a previous study design and that question would not be asked for units 3&4 VCE chemistry now.

Blimey. That was the very first trial exam I have ever written (along with luken93 at the time).
Can't believe it's now been 10 years since.
