Anyone with experience doing linear algebra and calculus 2?

I was planning on doing linear algebra over this summer without having done calc 2, would that be a problem?

Just completed Calc 2 and doing linear algebra now. You don't need to do Calc 2 before hand, but it is recommended you do it before Linear Algebra because it flows on nicely from Specialist/Calc1. LinAlg and Calc 2 are two different mathematic subjects and teach different things, so you should be good with L.A. over the summer.

Cool, cool, thanks :) I'd be doing it straight after calc 1 so it shouldn't be too bad I guess :)

Just out of curiosity, since its done over the 'summer', which specific months would I be completing it in and, also, would it count towards my 1st or 2nd year in regards to my GPA calculation?

I believe the summer semester includes January and maybe a bit of February. I believe Linear Algebra is a 1st year subject so it would count towards your 1st year?

I'm fairly sure that each summer semester is part of the next year, so you will technically be doing it in 2nd year. Also, I could do a first year subject in third year and it would count towards my 3rd year gpa, so I dont think it matters what level subject it is, just when you take it.

Mm yeah that's what I was thinking. So, in theory, wouldn't it be better to take a level 1 subject (such as linear algebra) in 3rd year in order for it to be weighted more highly towards your GPA (assuming one is surely to do well in it)?

Lvl 1 subjects get weighted least. Lvl 2 subjects get weighted intermediate. Lvl 3 subjects get weighted most. AFAIK it doesn't matter what year you take the subjects.

If you're talking about med applications, there's a thread that explains all this...

This might be a longshot, but you wouldn't happen to have a link for it would you?  THe search engine for atarnotes isn't really helping..

Hi guys, I'm doing management as a breadth now but I'm thinking of dropping it and doing it as a summer subject instead. Will I still be able to do in 3 rd year the normal 4 subjects per semester ? Or does doing a summer subject mean I only get to do 7 subjects in 3rd year in the 2 semesters ? Ps this is my last breadth subject

Depends on how many subjects you've each semester thus far.

But as a general rule, you must do a minimum and a maximum* of 24 subjects.

*Excludes approved overloading and CAP subjects.

okay, i just thought if you did it in summer it rolls over to third year.  so im currently in 2nd year, ive done a summer subject(make up a subject in first year because i didn't do a breadth in one of the semesters), sem 1: 4 subjects including one breadth, sem 2: currently 4 subjects with breadth.
Third year: planning to do summer subject, 4 sciences in each semester. So doing essentially 9 subjects in third year. just need confirmation before i decide to drop my breadth, thanks heaps!

If I understand it right, you can do that, as long as you drop one of your subjects this semester. As Gloamglozer said, you can only do a max of 24 subjects. That means if you take two subjects over summer semesters (doesn't matter which one), you have to have two semesters with only three subjects.
