Title: University of TAS UMAT req. (MBBS)
Post by: chisel on February 01, 2013, 05:56:10 pm
Hey guys, i know that the UMAT requirement for interstaters applying to UTAS is extremely high (like 100% or something) but i also am aware that it is much less harsh for tasmanian residents (like myself)
So firstly: what is the lowered UMAT requirement for tasmanian residents
and secondly, do you have to have lived tasmania for a certain period of time to be counted as a resident (cause i have only just moved here...)

Cheers for any help given guys!

Tasmanian residents have it ridiculously easy with the UMAT cut-off. I studied med there for the last 2 years and in my time the lowest umat's from locals were 49th%ile and 51%ile. SO that will give you an idea of the requirements.
In addition im not sure how long you need to spend there, but i do know someone who lived in hobart for a year and got into med with a UMAT percentile of 89.
(This makes me think that you fall into the category of local applicants)
Also, UTAS has some guaranteed pathways into med now, so thats also something you can look into.

Hope that helps!
