I want to get into the RMIT course which is Environmental and Sustainable Engineering, it has on its prerequisite that you need Math Methods or specialist with a study score of 20 and over to go into it, is it a must?
EDIT: Reason why, because i'm doing further maths.

prereqs=must. if you want to do engineering, 20 in methods should be really easy

Yep. Methods knowledge at the bare minimum would be required for an engineering-related course. It is a pre requisite for good reason.

If you're worried about getting a 20 in methods then you're going to find Engineering extremely tough. It's a pre-req for a reason. Tbh I'd do spesh if you could, it's a good insight into first year engineering math.

^ I agree with dankfrank420. While Methods is a prereq, I'd do both Specialist and Methods, so that first year engineering won't grill your insides. If you do specialist, you'll be at least insuring yourself from further heartache and pain caused by what is engineering maths.

For engineering courses in uni, Methods is a must. Specialist math is optional, but highly recommended as it will make your study of engineering a lot smoother.

Engineering is a pretty demanding course that uses a lot of mathematics. If you are planning to do engineering, it's highly recommended that you work on building up your math knowledge which will serve as a important foundation.

On the bright side, scoring 20 in Methods is really achievable. If you put in some effort, scoring 30 or above is even possible, so aim high ;D

To be perfectly honest with you, you might be wise to have a look at some other opportunities than engineering if you're sincerely worried about doing methods. Maths is a vital component of engineering, making it really hard to enjoy if you don't enjoy maths and don't excel at maths.

It's great that you're interested in the environment and sustainability. There are plenty of environmental science courses that will still allow you to follow your passion in these fields, without having quite as heavy reliance on maths (though it must be said that maths is pretty closely married to any science).

I'm sorry to be so blunt, but yeah, engineering ≈ maths
