Title: Zappi's Year 12 Journey
Post by: Zappi on December 18, 2018, 10:51:38 am
Spoiler
I'm Zappi! I'm going into Year 12 in 2019. I live in the western suburbs of Melbourne, where I've lived for most of my life. I have a passion for language, linguistics and communication in general, which I hope to do as a career  ;D

I've studied Japanese for around 2~3 years by myself and I've gotten to an intermediate stage, passing the JLPT N3 in 2017 and taking the N2 in 2018. I've also dabbled in a lot of other languages, like Malay / Indonesian (beginner, but I only learn from what I pick up from having conversations), Esperanto / Interlingua, Cantonese and many more (only dabbled, haven't progressed much if at all in any of 'em)

I'm fairly quiet and keep to myself in public (complete opposite at home, just ask my family  ;)). Never really been social so I don't really like making myself known. I have a very small group of really close friends and I wouldn't want anything else  ;D

So, next year I've chosen to study English Language, VCE Japanese (through Distance Ed w/ VSL), Software Development, BusMan and Further Maths. I'm told it's a good mix so we'll see how it all turns out  8)

My goals seem a bit far fetched to me now, but hopefully I can push through it all.

Overall,  my personal goal for my ATAR is 90~95+, with my dream course's (Arts, Linguistics Major @ Melb. Uni) ATAR req. being 85.

Personal junk in the spoiler if anyone wants to read it:
Spoiler
I don't have a real reason to go so high but I have lots of personal reasons for why I am. I've always had a serious lack of self-control which has manifested itself in procrastination, hoarding, self-neglect and even me hurting people that I love and cherish as a result of me not having restraint. It's always been serious, but the major turning point was when it started hurting others, not just myself (not to mention how my family's been affected over the years).

Over the past few months (probably starting around June 2018) I've woken up to how serious it all is and how it goes completely against my personal values and expectations I have for myself and others. 2018 has probably been one of the lowest years of my life, but I'm so so so grateful that people are so incredibly understanding and patient and were / still are willing to walk me through all of this. If I didn't get all of the love and support I've gotten over the past few months I'd probably not be here typing this right now.

I decided that the best course of action would be to organise myself, discipline myself and learn to be a better person, no matter how painful it is. School's just another way I'm trying to do this, as my results have always been so much lower than what I think I'm capable of (test scores have always been good, but it got to the point this / last year that I was handing in work so rarely that I was just minutes away from completely failing Year 10 and Year 11).

I want to do amazingly well in VCE not only to help me get into a good university, but also to prove to myself that I can fix this, that I can push myself and that I can do this. It'll be tough, sure, but I'm sick and tired of making excuses after excuses as to why I'm not doing my absolute best (I even started telling people what I should be doing, not what I'm actually doing, just to trick myself into thinking that I'm okay). I need to show myself that I have the ability to succeed and not let the demons in my head ruin all of it for me.

tl;dr my lack of self-control has hurt myself and others around me, so I finally decided to take action half way through 2018 and prove to myself that I can overcome this. I want to do well in VCE so I can teach myself to have control, discipline and just the drive to do better.

So yeah! I hope to post updates here fairly often to keep myself on track and to share my experiences with others. I really hope we can all do our best this year!!

(I think I've done this right but please call me out if I'm breaking any rules by posting this!! I'm still kinda unsure  :'()[/list]

Haven't done too much today so far apart from start this journal and scouring through the forums  ;D
Did apply to the VCESS program. Not sure if I'll be able to pay it yet so I'll see what happens. If I can, great! If not, oh well. Shouldn't matter too much as long as I email the organisers and explain  ;D

All of the ATARNotes books I ordered a few days ago arrived today ;D along with a personal copy of our Further textbook (Cambridge Further Maths Revised, already have the library copy I forgot to return). How just need to actually get around to starting that summaries book  :P

re:spoiler

I'm glad that you're acknowledging the need for change, even though that must be quite confronting for you.

Part of your story reminds me of part of my VCE experience:
For me, during year 9 I was not handing in or completing homework despite the fact that I wished I was & it got to the point where at the end of year 9 my science teacher told me I wouldn't succeed in VCE despite being academically "bright". In year 11 I had that teacher for units 3&4 of VCE biology and achieved a study score of 47.

One thing I think would have benefitted me is talking to a counsellor earlier to have professional support as I worked on my wellbeing (I only started being open when speaking to one during year 12, and it was a better experience than I thought it would be). This might not be something you feel comfortable with yet, but I would recommend it.

Best of luck to you and your family; I believe you can turn things around.

I studied eng lang too (and wanted to study jap at a VCE level but had timetable clashing). Eng lang is one of the best VCE subjects, imo :)

Thank you  ;D It means a lot to hear that. I do go to a psychologist but I'm just trying to build up the courage to get this off my chest.

Definitely better for more science-y people. Hated mainstream in Year 10 (watching Romeo + Juliet for the 20th time) even though I did well in it. Always hear that EL is harder than mainstream but it seems to click with me better  ;D

21st of December 2018

Living Lingo arrived! Hoping to start reading it & taking notes but I'm still figuring out how to approach it. I have a summaries book and an in-class / scrap book in my EL binder. Should I do practice essays and exercises in the in-class book? Write metalanguage & summaries of topics in my summaries book following SD points? Have no idea and I'm scared to ruin the fresh new book  :'(

No problem at all :) It seems like you've gotten off to a good start and are actively trying to make progress  -- that's important and commendable

The year level before mine did Romeo and Juliet but luckily in my year we had Macbeth (I love reading but find romance boring and uninteresting at the best of times).

We've got a metalanguage thread in the eng lang section of the forums which I reckon is pretty good & better than using a book-bound glossary. I'd probably write summaries in the summary book according to the study design and work for the back of the summary book on essays but do in-class exercises in the in-class one. That's just me though.
I think the important thing is, the sooner you start taking an approach, the sooner you'll learn if it works for you or not. If you really don't like how you've started you can always rip out pages (only applies to mistakes in exercise books; I wouldn't desecrate an actual book by even folding a corner, let alone ripping out paper)

God miniturtle gives such great advice that I can barely think of what else to say.
Having an adaptable/digital Metalanguage glossary is a fantastic idea and definitely the most important thing is just to try something out. I am the type to plan and plan but never execute, so this point of advice really stuck out for me.

Anyway, I'm glad to see a fellow Japanese language enthusiast! I can't wait to read about what you get up to this year. What attracts you Melbourne Uni over Monash? Also, do you have any ideas about what you would like to do after finishing up at uni? It's totally okay if not — in fact, maybe better if you don't!
I can also totally understand where you are coming from re choosing to do Japanese in VCE for the marks. Most of my language education was also outside of school and to be honest, I did not enjoy VCE Japanese. I found it was too structured and strategic. Although, I'm grateful for it now because it encouraged me to keep learning Japanese. Maybe you'll feel the same way :)
Have you completed 1/2 Japanese through VSL or at your home school?

Congratulations on completing N2 as well! What an amazing achievement.
Hoping to hear all about the other successes coming your way!
Merry Christmas :)

Honestly Melb Uni is just easier for me to get to transport-wise  ;D Heard Deakin also has good language programs
I did 1/2 through VSL as well  ;D
Thank you!! Hopefully I get just above the passing mark like I did with N3  8)

4th Jan 2019

Merry Christmas / Happy New Year!! Haven't posted in a while because of Christmas / New Year's stuff. Not much has happened either truthfully  ;D
Not sure if I have to go into Melbourne Uni today to go to the VCESS Enrolment day... would love to avoid if I can. Residential program kids don't have to today so I'm not sure that I have to either  ???

Thinking of taking up French or Indonesian for 3/4 to have a 6th subject but I'm not sure if that's the smart thing to do or not  ??? I have some competency in Malay so Indonesian shouldn't be too much for me.
French appeals to me more but I have next to no experience with it. Picking it up fairly quickly but I don't know if it'll be enough  :'(
I mean having a 6th subject can't really hurt, right? If it ever does get too much that's fine. It can only help me in the end  :'(

mod edit: I saw that you had trouble with the edit function, it's okay, I merged your posts for you ^-^

Hi there,

I am really looking forward to reading your journal this year! It's great to see a fellow year 12's journal for 2019 and wander along your experiences. Firstly I have to say that your subjects sound so great, I almost did Indonesian as I have a fairly good competency with it but didn't end up doing it because of the dry repetitive way it was being taught by the new teacher, but Japanese has always fascinated me. Congratulations on the wonderful N2 achievement!

Have you decided whether you'll do a language? I would say to be careful with diving headfirst into French if you haven't really studied it before, that goes for any language, although you have said you have found it quite simple to pick up. My advice would be to speak to your French teachers and also, just give it a go, you are never trapped if you find the workload too much, but the themes I'm seeing in Year 12 are discipline, motivation, consistency and perseverance, you can anything you set your mind to, if you are willing to.

You ride the confidence and let it motivate you.

Thank you!! I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I'm on the train to my second week of VCESS right now where I'm taking all of my subjects plus French to test it out. I'm honestly still 50/50 on it right now  :'(

Wew, been a while since I've posted. Been having so much fun at VCESS the past week and I still have another week to go :D Don't really want it to end!!

The University of Melbourne campus is huuge. Like a little city in of itself 8)

As I said above I'm taking English Language, Business Management, Japanese, Software Development, Futher Maths and French at VCESS. All are going really well so far! French is a bit different, the tutor noticed that I don't understand enough to participate so she mostly lets me sit and listen on my own. The second tutor even gave me a basic introduction to French grammar outside of classtime  :D

I'm still really conflicted, but I've decided to wait until the end of the week before I really think about it. Tutor agreed to start getting me involved in class activities by Thursday or Friday so we'll see  ;D

Anyone else at VCESS at the moment? Would be happy to meet up with someone ;D

Jeez it was muggy today. Feel bad for anyone around me since I forgot to use deo this morning  :'(
VCESS is still so fun. Went up to the Welfare room for the first time  ;D
If nobody's made a VCESS thread yet I'll make one later tonight. Really excited to meet some of you guys  ;D

16th January 2019 (accidentally said yesterday's was the 16th  :'( )

Still muggy... better than yesterday but still killer on a packed tram. Nothing much happened today apart from a trivia game at VCESS  ;D Our team came 3rd in trivia and 2nd in the scav hunt last week so I'm pretty stoked  ;D

Just starting to realise how much I'm gonna miss VCESS... people here are so much more supportive and excited to be there than at my school  :-\

I can agree with you there- packed trams (especially when it's steamy/muggy/warm) suck. Trains are only slightly a bit better on my line, but it's still sardines come 4PM :(

VCESS sounds like fun from what I'm hearing from you, so glad you're enjoying it!!! :)
(I'm a big fan of trivia and I'm actually in the process of writing the trivia questions for a trivia night my uni campus is holding and I'm actually lowkey excited aha)

Kept forgetting to post. Last day of VCESS was sad  :'( Got my shirt signed and got people's contacts but I'll miss how nice and supportive everyone was. Might post photos eventually  ;D

Today's not too bad so far. Found out I can go to the ATARNotes meetup on the 29th  ;D Thought school started then but it starts the 30th  :D
Also going to pick up some books for VCE today off of Gumtree. First time I've bought anything used online so a bit freaked out about it but I think I've gotten a good deal  ;D Anyone have experience with Connect Education notebooks?

Yay that you can come to the meetup!!! :))
I personally had a set of ConnectEd notebooks but I never actually used them (my school gave them to me basically), your experience may be different! :)

What was your favourite thing about VCESS? :)

I'm seeing ConnectEd books for around $20 each. Worth it?

to
Too many things to count ;D Biggest thing might just be the general atmosphere of it. Everyone there actually wants to be there so people were actually trying and being supportive. My school's known for dropkicks so it was a giant change that'll be painful to adapt back from  :'(
Got tonnes of great advice and resources for my subjects too which is nice  ;D

I had a bit of a captain's hook (a look) and that's about 1/2price. Up to you if you think they're worth it :) (I can't give a true opinion of them myself obviously + I basically lived off the AN books in my year 12 year :'))

I'm glad to hear that about the atmosphere and the advice/resources! Adjusting back to the school environment- maybe you'll inspire people with that attitude and create the atmosphere, you never know! :)

Make the best of the last few days of break and best of luck for the start of the school term! :)

22nd January 2019

Finally finished getting all of my Business Management books  ;D Went and picked up a used Cambridge BusMan 3&4 textbook today for $30. Already had the PDF of it but it'd nice to have the physical book as well. Had a rough time yesterday with an A+ BusMan exam book I bought at Wyndham Vale, seller said it was up-to-date but found out on the way home it was for the old study design! Had to go back again to swap it for 10 relevant practice exams for $1 each which I think is a good deal  ;D

Finally started taking notes and studying BusMan this morning at 4:30, went to like 9:30  ;D Probably not the best but I got in the zone.
Just made a PowerPoint presentation on sole traders & partnerships. I'll upload it with this if anyone wants to check it out / make sure I'm not writing nonsense half the time  ;D Just need to consolidate everything into my summaries book eventually.

Nervous about tomorrow, the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) results come out at 12:00 AEDT / 10:00 JST. Took the N2 but it's really just up to pure luck at this point to be honest  :'(

Just starting to realise how much I'm gonna miss VCESS...

The way you've described VCESS has made me wish I went! It sounds like it was an amazing experience and I'm glad you gained so much from it! Are you pleased with your results? I'm sure you did very well. How are you feeling about school starting in a few days? How are you planning to tackle the workload?

Rest well during these final days.

I absolutely loved VCESS! Learnt a lot from it in terms of content and study tips (+ had lots of fun  ;D)
I feel more prepared than I was going into Year 11. Taking Year 12 a lot more seriously since I really didn't do well in Year 11 outside of my test results (got good results but nearly failed a few subjects because of the coursework)  :'(
Have a lot more resources now and bigger support networks which I'll probably depend on later on in the year  ;D

28th of January 2019

Wew! Sister's birthday yesterday so that was fun. Damn whisky's hard to drink but the burn's nice  ;D
Really excited for the ATARNotes meetup tomorrow at the Carlton Gardens!! Couldn't make ANZACs so I'll just bring in a bag of Smiths ^^;
Unexpectedly got a text from my boss to come in to work when I hadn't worked there in over a year. Just for the one four-hour shift. Not getting regular shifts again sadly, the regular had just taken a sickie. Was really really really nervous about going into work since I always stuffed up  :'( But it went better than expected. Things usually go better than anxiety wants you to think they'll go  ;D

Wow... first day back as Year 12 and the pressure's already taking hold. First SAC (that I'm aware of so far) is a BusMan SAC in the third week (11 ~ 15th of February). Already starting to feel overwhelmed even though nothing's really started yet  :'(
Did form a study group for English Language though which is nice  :D
Just need to catch up on some Further Maths stuff which I neglected forgot about over the holidays. Not too much and it's relatively easy  ;D

ATARNotes meetup @ Carlton Gardens yesterday was sooo fun! Took some Polaroids but I forgot to scan them today... I want to promise them by tomorrow but I'll just have to promise to try at this point  :'( Sorry!!! Thanks to everyone that came (not gonna lie I don't remember names well at all so sorry if I don't remember who you were  :'( I can't even remember names of classmates I've shared classes with for years)!! Looking forward to 2020's meetup (or any other meetup someone decides to host. Heard someone's hosting a pool party  ;D)

I tend to be pretty bad with names myself but for in future here are some tips that are generally helpful:
remembering names
- use the person's name back to them a few times recently after you've heard it.
- learn something about them
- occasionally use their name while talking
- mentally summarise to yourself at the end of the convo
(eg. You: Hey, what's your name btw? Didn't catch it ealier
Them: Oh that's alright, I'm "Them"
You: Them?
Them: Yep!
You: Great! Nice to meet you, Them.
*ask question about them - hopefully something that gives you more info about them than "how are you?" *

Remembering names is a skill you can develop over time - it takes practice but it's certainly not something you always have to struggle with
I'm glad you enjoyed the meetup and it was good to see you there!

Year 12 does get more intense as the year progresses but you also get more used to being in year 12, so I'd try not to read too much into feeling pressure now. Who knows - the pressure could even be a sign of motivation to do well and thus be good. :)

Wew... sorry for not updating this in a good while. Things have really started to pick up.

Already behind in a few of my subjects and will fall behind soon if I don't get into gear soon so I have to juggle five subject's work at once. I really hope this isn't what it's gonna be like for the rest of the year  :'(
That and personal issues have made it a really hard week-and-a-day.

Still a bit quite behind but a lot less stressed about it all than I was a few days ago  :'( Got a bit hard not to break down a few times.

Can't find my Japanese SL worksets and I think I lost $50 that I earnt the other day  :'(

Probably gonna need to work my arse off this coming weekend... helping my sister and her boyfriend move on Saturday before I go to UoM for a BusMan study meetup for the U3 AOS1 SAC we have Monday week.

Really really sorry for not getting the Polaroids up  :-[ I thought I'd scanned them already but it never got through.

Getting back into the routine of school won't happen instantly, but stay with it! It's completely understandable that you feel a little overwhelmed and behind right now, but I urge you to realise that those around you are most likely in the same boat. Keep persevering; I promise you'll begin to feel more comfortable as the term progresses.

I feel like once I get over the first phase of work it'll be a lot easier. I've just failed to really plan and organise for anything... was a bit too optimistic  :'(
I just feel like I need at least a day's break from everything but I know I can't afford that as I'm already really behind in pretty much everything. Just have to push though it and deal with the consequences after I do.

Just feels really bad having to make compromises already... in terms of personal things and school subjects. Do I want BusMan to be late, or Japanese?

Hey! Don't feel discouraged if you're feeling overwhelmed already! Don't think of it as "I'm already behind.. it's only going to get worse as the year goes on...", instead think, "it's normal to be thrown by this new, high-pressure environment, but I have plenty of time to get the hang of it so I'll be a pro by the end :D". There will definitely be tasks that take you longer than expected; just try to catch up where you can - bit by bit, if possible. I know that advice isn't all that helpful, but I promise these more stressful periods will pass and you'll find your feet; just hang in there and stay on top of your SAC calendar... being well prepared for the week ahead really helped me last year, even though it can be annoying when your plans don't turn out the way you expected :/
Best of luck!!

Hello! It's definitely been a good while since I've posted here!

Lot's been going on recently. Lots of school stuff, lots of personal stuff, just been overwhelming overall to be honest. Had my first BusMan SAC the other day and I'll find out how badly I did later today  :-*

First English Language SAC's next week (four-day weekend woohoo!) and first part of my first SofDev SAC's tomorrow (not worried about SofDev so far  ;D)

Still reaaally behind in everything and it feels impossible to catch up and stay organised. Bullet journaling with the GTD method has helped but it's still hard to keep everything perfect.

Signed up for English Language tutoring @ TuteSmart last night. Really really expensive but it's the cheapest we can find  :( And EL's the subject that I'll need extra guidance for. Wanted to do FM / BusMan there as well but even $54 a week's pushing it. Might drop by the La Trobe building after school today. Plan was originally to fly to Canberra for my birthday so I could take the JLPT N2 but I convinced my parents to give me tutoring instead as my 18th birthday present.

Like I promised like two months ago I've finally scanned the Polaroids from the meetup! Scans don't look too great but Polaroids never look as good scanned. https://imgur.com/a/xIGfzvm

Joined the school leadership as Leader for Environment  ;D Seems fun to do

Just got my BusMan results, I got 19/20!! Thank God. Only mark I lost was because I forgot / didn't know how to link my answer to the case study  :'(
She said it was the highest mark!!

Feeling a lot more disorganised but also more organised at the same time... haven't kept up to date with actual paper organisation but I feel more on top of everything? Hard to explain but it's a better feeling than before  ;D

Thankfully got the first part of my BusMan AOS2 SAC rescheduled from tomorrow to next Tuesday! Have a Japanese SL seminar in the city tomorrow so it's considered a school approved absence. Don't really need the seminar but if it gives me the advantage of having more time to study I'd be stupid not to take it ay ;D

Sat my English Language U3 AOS1 SAC yesterday... really not sure about how I did. I feel like I did at least okay. Don't think anyone in my small class of around 8~9 did well either.

I'm glad you're finding things better now despite not keeping up with it on paper :)

I hope the seminar is surprising useful!

God I've kept forgetting to post on here. Been meaning to but kept getting sidetracked  :-\

Stressed for the giant Data Analysis FM SAC tomorrow from 9.00 to 13.30... just did a practice SAC from my school and I made lots of stupid mistakes that pushed the score down to a C+  :'( Just need to keep an eye on that tomorrow.

Got 18/20 on the first part of my AOS2 BusMan SAC and sat part 2 today! Will get the combined results after the holidays  ;D
Also got 100% on my LOTE (JP) Oral SAC which was a nice surprise  ;D

Just really neurotic about not screwing up on my Further SAC tomorrow...

19th April 2019

Been up and down these holidays! Been doing renos on my new room with my parents and just put in the new furniture and flooring. Still have to clear out my old room before Monday or Tuesday which will take a while :-[ That and the tutoring sessions and ATARNotes lectures have made it really hard to relax. Have to pick between having some time off or doing work now :'(
Japanese SL writing SAC's on Wednesday next week after school. Not overly worried about it but my teacher recommended that I do some worksets I'm still behind on as the content in them's really important for the SAC. Hard to juggle everything :'(

Parent teacher interviews went well though ;D Mum had all of them while I was sitting my Further SAC (which went better than expected, except our room not being told of a pretty severe typo on a question) except for BusMan which I went to with her. BusMan teacher seems to like me and thinks I'm working hard for it (lol). SofDev teacher started raving about my work and how she's "learning from me" with regards to programming (seems weird hearing a teacher say that...)

23rd April 2019

Luckily I got my Japanese SL Writing SAC rescheduled from tomorrow after school to next Thursday during a spare ;D And I cleared up some confusion around what the SAC was going to be like, etc...

Worried about SoftDev as the first Observation (I think it's called? Not familiar enough with folio subjects) is due tomorrow and I couldn't work on it over the holidays :'( Hit a roadblock and I couldn't get my problem answered until today. Will probably have to cut sleep back a little bit for some extra time. I refuse to get less than 6 (although 7~8 is my average) :'(

Wew it's been a while since I've updated this :'(
It's been very up-and-down the past month (!) or so.
Got 83% (Rank 11) in my Further Maths Core: DA SAC which was a bit disappointing to be honest. 64% in my English Language AC SAC (2nd SAC so far, next one's an essay this Friday) which was even more disappointing :-[
BusMan was good though, turned out I got 37/40 for U3 AOS2 putting me around rank 1 ~ 3 ;D AOS3's next Thursday so I have a bit of time to prepare.
Japanese was good but I wasn't too surprised, 17-20 range for my writing SAC :D Might get my listening results in about 20 minutes when I call my teacher

Stress has also been all over the place... last week I freaked out about how behind I was and make a crazy block schedule for study that made me do 4 hours (I planned to do 5) of study apart from classes last Tuesday... burnt out on Wednesday and did essentially nothing. Still unsure how to manage everything but I've just been taking things a day at a time to clear up my backlog first which has been going okay. I think I just have the tendency to overestimate how much I can do / am willing to do and end up making a system that I don't follow so I've just been trying to let things naturally set in place a bit to see how I naturally work. Been going well so far, been getting SOMETHING done which is more important than making a perfect organisational system but never actually getting anything done :-[

Dealing with personal issues recently as well just to through more into the mix. Really hitting the term 2 blues, not feeling nearly as motivated as I was this time last term. Not feeling as confident either :'(

So it's good that I'm slowly recovering from my burnout. I really think I needed to experience that panic and burnout through, it's really put things into more perspective and it's let me kinda "reset" myself and the way I've been approaching work. Feel a lot more refreshed now after letting most of my stress out, but I'm still stressed about organisation. Hopefully I'll resist the temptation to overanalyse it all and I'll just start by making a to-do list and getting things done. Knowing me though I'll end up worrying too much about it again :'( Nothing seems to really work for me

Ugh I keep forgetting to update this... been focusing too much on my website :'( I even got the "Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 30 days" warning lol

Still been a bit up and down I think. Disappointed but also happy with myself. I've gotten into a routine of doing two hours' work in the morning Sunday through Friday pretty consistently (except today :P) which has really helped me feel less stressed. I've finally (nearly) hit the sweet spot with organisation - I've found how to organise myself naturally so I'm not planning everything to the second and burning out when I inevitably screw up.

Exams coming up soon! Kinda worried about them like everyone but a part of me's also just excited for this to be over. But at the same time I'm still scared of leaving school as it's what I've known since I was five :'( Also worried about losing touch with everyone I know here as we all go our separate ways.

Renovations on my new room are all done ;D Got a really nice and open corner office desk so it's really nice to have the space to work. Filing cabinet's also been handy with filing work and resources ;D

In terms of school, it's been a bit up and down. Still disappointed with my EngLang results... so far my average's 73% (we've only gotten results for three out of four Unit 3 SACs so far, a short-answer, AC and an essay. Waiting on another AC) :'(

Other subjects are going better. Japanese SL has all been in the top score range (VSL don't give exact scores) ;D Just found out yesterday that my overall Business Management Unit 3 result was 93/100 (19/20 + 37/40 + 37/40) ;D Missed three marks on the AOS3 SAC due to stupid mistakes like not reading the question properly so I'm still kinda mad at myself :-[

Software's been good too - got 8/10 in the first four observations for our SAT (still waiting on the U3 AOS1 SAC results...). Further's honestly disappointing, we sat our Financial Core SAC the other day and it doesn't sound like I did too well on it. Teacher hasn't released the scores yet but he's hinted to me that I got a percentage or two below how I did on my Data Analysis SAC (83%) :'( He still seems kinda satisfied with it though which is confusing, he's not afraid to be honest about how he feels about our performance. When I got that 83% he (really nicely and encouragingly, not harshly) said that he was disappointed as he thought I'd do better. Maybe it's in comparison to the general mark? Apparently the highest anyone got in another FM class at our school was something like 53% :'( Three-quarters failed this SAC last year.

Things are just starting to hit me hard, like becoming an adult and finishing high school. I'm not too good with dealing with change so I'm honestly kinda afraid of leaving such a familiar environment. Exams are coming up too, which is really worrying too. But I also feel like I've gotten a more mature mindset about school from the beginning of the year when I worried about raw scores and ATARs and such a bit too much.

Wow. Seems like you're an early riser. What time to you get up every morning? I used to wake up earlyish every morning to get an hour of study in, but I kinda fell out of it and have since tried to get back into the swing of it but with little sucsess.

Corner desks are really cool! I've tried to see if I could fit one I my room, but alas I've got too much other junk in it so I'm stuck with a normal linear desk.

Maturing in your approach to school is great. I've certainly tried to for this year (and the future of my schooling) and it really does make it a lot less stressful.
Leaving school can certainly be daunting, but I don't think going to uni will be that big of a leap (you still want to go to uni right?). I'm sure there are plenty of uni students who can offer better insight into this though.

Well done on your SAC results and for those that you didn't go perfectly in, it's good that you have in mind where you went wrong so you can improve.

Been too long since I've posted anything! Lots happened since (basically all of Term 3)

Didn't do that much over the holidays which I kinda regret (only did some Software notes and a Further Maths Exam 1) :'( Got to relax though which was nice. Our school had Connect Education lectures over the holidays but I missed both of them :-[ Waste of $80

Did pretty well on my SACs from what I've gathered so far ;D Got 86% on GA1 for Further Maths (rank 5). I'll update this as I find out my final scores ;D Think I ended up being rank 2 for BusMan but I'm not sure, and I got 95% for my Software Development SAT ;D

Not sure how prepared I feel overall yet. Still have a lot of time left but I'm definitely regretting not doing enough up until now. First exam's on the 16th of October (next Thursday) for my Japanese SL Oral, but I'm not really too worried about it ;D

Ended up going to the Climate Strike on the last Friday ;D Unfortunately didn't meet up with anyone but I took a lot of photos on my film camera: https://put.re/album/bP8fEihr/ (careful if you're on data as it'll download all the images at once). Used Kodak TMax P3200 and Fuji Velvia 100 if anyone's interested in that.

I'm hoping to update this more often in the lead-up to exams to keep myself accountable! I'll try to post at least daily ;D

Did you find anime/manga an interesting topic? I'm doing club activities in Japan, which was not compulsory at my school, but my Dad told me I should pick it.

Not really that interesting for me since I don't read manga or watch anime :'( Picked language use as a point though so I can talk about 擬音語 which I'm interested in ;D

How did it go?  :)

Don't really know... I couldn't talk about about everything I wanted to. I don't think I did badly but definitely not as well as I'd hoped.

How about you? :)

It's a relief to have it over with isn't it! It's sometimes hard to perform at your best in the exam environment.

I am happy with mine! There were some things I said that were a bit iffy, but majority was okay. I have to update my journal sometime so I can ramble for a large paragraph.

Good luck with the rest of your exams!  :)

31st October 2019

I know I said I'd update this daily but stuff happened :'(

EngLang exam's today and tomorrow's the first Further Maths exam. Not sure how I feel about either exam to be honest :-\
Don't really have much stimulus to use for the EngLang essay but the practices I've done I've gotten around 11-13/15 so I don't think I need to worry too much.

How did the English exam go yesterday for people that did it? Heard it was easier than usual :D
