Just curious if anyone here has done the USA's SATs?

What were you experiences like with the main SAT test and your subject tests? How did you study & how did you do?
Any information will be helpful.

Also if anyone is planning to do them this year, you can post here too hehe.

Everything else other than Maths can be quite hard though, 400+ word essay in 25 minutes lol, and you have to use pencil to write it too...

haha really. was it for the maths 1 or 2 subject? i think maths 1 is the easier one.. (i'd be doing that one if it is + chem, which has so much stuff from what we do in unit 4.)

that's actually not tooooo bad, but stressful i guess, don't know if i could even do it anyway ha. that's for the main SAT test right?

i wish we got to write using pencil here.  i hate crossing stuff out, it looks terrible, and if i cross things out then it just psychologically brings me down.  also because i don't want to cross too much stuff out, it kinda prevents me from improving my work, because it will just get too messy.  i don't see why we're not allowed to write using a pacer if we want to...

Because apparently the examiners find it "hard to read".

I'm doing them this year. My friend who's going to Princeton conned me into it. Don't think I'll get accepted anywhere though, because the admissions is really luck of the draw, but at least I have a hook.

Vexx, you applying for HYP + MIT?

Oh and kyzoo, you applying overseas too?

Oh and Vexx, there are two maths subject tests: Maths I and Maths II. Maths II is quite a bit harder, but around 10% of applicants receive 800... much less than that percentage receive 800 in Maths I.

ooooh i'm so jealous of your friend Appian.
I'm applying for HYP, i assume your going for the four?

Too be honest you have a much greater chance then i do at any of these appian haha, but it's worth applying and trying to be positive/a bit confidence anyway.

when are you doing them? how are you going to prepare?
i am speaking to the people who arrange it (or something) here in melbourne in a few days so im a bit unsure until then.

10%?! that's pretty cool, except i doubt i'll be taking that. i assume it's similar to spesh? and maths I is similar to methods? (in terms of difficulty).
what subject tests are you doing?

EducationUSA? I went to their information session a while back :P

I should be applying at HYP + MIT and possibly S, but MIT admissions are crazy. Seriously, they make the weirdest choices. I might also apply at Oxbridge, but neither Cambridge nor Oxford has good finaid for internationals, and it costs a heck of a lot without it.

Do you know about any amazing applicants this year? Apparently there's someone a year younger than us (but applying for class of 2015) who's flying over to China to sit APs. Not sure if she has any hooks though. In terms of Australian Olympiad teams, 2 of us from physics will apply (one's already done the SATs and received 2370), there might be one in biology (although I doubt it...), and 2 kids from the maths camps are applying (both have a chance of making the team this year).

Hmm, I'm not sure what to do to prepare. I'll probably take Maths II and Physics, and probably Chem too... Physics shouldn't be an issue, and hopefully the others won't be either, but I'm most worried about the SAT Is. I'll probably resit them if they don't go well...

I was planning on doing these two years ago and I did some practice questions for physics/maths (and owned them WHAT UP) but university in the US is expensive so that sort of put me off. I'm happy just chilaxin in Australia.

Good luck guys I hope you do well. :)

US Universities are expensive, but there's financial aid :) Most of the Australians accepted into Princeton this year got a full ride apparently.

Thanks... I'll take them and see how I go... if I don't get admitted with decent enough financial aid, I'll just go for postgrad!

I think one of my friends didn't have any 'hooks' but got accepted into caltech. Must have gunned the SATs
