Assuming I am talking teacher-to-teacher here; If I've learned anything (the hard way), it's:
1) Assume nothing.  The exam had a single Section C text from 2008 to 2013.  So naturally I told my class that the trend was set, and then it went to four years of comparative.  Sooner or later they were going to go back to single, especially with some schools caring TOO much about comparing, which not even a criterion of the task. I tutor as well as teach, and some schools have seriously lost the plot on this, to their students' detriment.
2) The longer a text is on the list, the more likely there will be questions that are not about protagonists, sympathy for them or the most obvious major themes.  Medea and Burial Rites were in their last years.  I was predicting a question about Toti (correct) but also the Chorus (incorrect).  Compare that with a text like Rear Window. There was always going to be a question about Jeffries and how we judge people this year, but sooner or later there will be questions about Lisa and the role of women.

That is so true!! What were the Burial Rites prompts?? One was on Toti - if that happened last year I would have been pretty disappointed. I never really focused too much on Toti whilst studying the text.

@lilyrosee
BR prompts were:
'i. Agnes is as disturbing as she is courageous.' Do you agree?
ii. 'In Burial Rites, although Toti's task is to guide Agnes, she has more impact on him.' Discuss.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here did The Crucible and Year of Wonders for their section B and what they thought of the prompts?  :)

I personally liked the one about the role of judgement.

Thanks

Did anyone else realise that in section c the image at the bottom of the review had coffee written with an extra f on the Calmer Coffee sign.
It was spread out into the two cups so "coff" in one cup and "fee" in the other. So it's like saying that the customers are only there to cough up the fee at calmer coffee

I wonder if anyone noticed the dodgy dates in the cartoon. It said 1926 above Ken's butcher shop, but the article said Ken's butcher shop has been there for "over 65 years". 1926 was 92 years ago. So, yeah, 92 is over 65, but if the butcher shop was 92 years old, why would you say "over 65" rather than "over 90"?

Given that the point of that sentence was to emphasise how long the other places have been there for, it seems like he would have said "over 90" if he could. I think I wrote in my essay that the 1926 was a deliberate exaggeration, to amplify the sense of "community" you get when the town is mostly local businesses that have been in operation for a long time.

Hi can someone edit my creative piece ASAP

The city of lights, Sylvania is something everyone desires. Max, as soon as he arrived at the entrance, he was greeted by many people which instantly put a smile on his face, and it was like a bliss for him. The grumbling noise of his stomach instantly makes him hungry. As he put his hands in his pockets, he then realised it was empty. Fortunately, he was able to go outside and find other miscellaneous things. Max later explored the city until a smell of foul air coming from somewhere instantly had Max wondering where that’s coming from. He goes on his mysterious adventure on to find out. Near Sylvania is a twelve minutes’ walk to Aristo a spooky place that is known for its mysteries. Max had an urge to see this place and walked. Out of nervousness he actually was in the stage of shivering whilst walking.
Max quickly realised he came to the wrong side of place and wanted to turn back but couldn’t. The unpleasant smell was  out of an underground tunnel of homeless people seeking asylum from the beckoning lights. Its known for its ongoing spookiness that seem like monsters under your bed. Once you visit this place it may seem like you want to escape because of the vibes it creates. The appearance of people: wearing black clothing and all had a frustrated look and in wonder Max sensed a bad feeling that this wasn’t the best idea, so he managed to go away.
It was quiet, the only sound coming from the scuttling rats and the odd cats slinking through the bushes and walking along the fences. On the right of the streets, lines of bins that were standing along outside fences. The streetlamps flickered, leaving dark shadows for monsters to hide in, enhancing the paranoia that surrounded the area. Pitch black, on the floor the black tarmac glistened from the rain, picking up and reflecting the smallest amount of light back up into the sky. The torch Max had in his backpack was the only tool he brought but he realised it wasn’t working. As he wasn’t able to see much going on, he finds himself in a random house unknowingly. Max senses different sort of phenomena around the house. The noise of footsteps on the stair, creaking doors, window shutters rattling on the outside, the tree branches scraping at the windows. The unsettling feelings the sensation being grabbed on the arm, pulled, a feeling of light-headedness and nausea, hair rising on arms or the back of the neck, the body’s reaction to a drop-in temperature. Suddenly a loud sound came through the next room loud and the sweat came straight form his forehead signalling his anxiousness. He ran everywhere around the house and luckily enough was able to find the door. But there it comes a scary, frightening old lady asking me “who are you, what brings you here” very exasperatedly and his pulse beating in his ears, blocking out all other sound, cold wave embalmed him as the hairs rose on the back of his neck and his mouth ran dry. Speechless on what to say he shivers as he speaks responding “I…...I....don’t know I was in Syldavia and all of a sudden I…I…. just wanted to explore this area and….”. The lady wasn’t as scary as Max imagines but in fact she escorted him in the balcony. The politeness and her care were coming through the air, but Max wasn’t able to float her boat. She advised Max not to feel paranoid but to just have calm. Max has a conversation with her and learns that everything you see is not necessarily what you expect. Max at first was feared of the dark house but once the lady turned on the lights, he was quite relieved.   He was suffused with happiness and joy sparkled inside the woman.
