English is mostly language analysis, but also some comparative writing between Paradise Road and some war poetry. Methods we are doing logarithms and indices which is thankfully very easy!  :P I mostly do pencil and pastel sketches of birds (see my profile).
Is the uke fun? I've never really learned any musical instrument except about a year or two of the piano, so I don't really know what it is like. I used to know how to crossstitch and knit myself, but I haven't done any for a while now ::)
Hope your uni break is good!
Ah, language analysis is good fun! :) How's the comparative writing coming along?
Logs are great fun! I still use logs for the (little) maths I have to do for uni, haha! :)

The uke is an odd instrument, it's strings are in an odd order, unlike the guitar (which I don't play), and the bass (which I do actually play). :)
I'm seriously struggling with the knitting atm- hopefully I'll figure it out before too much longer! ;D

Hope your break (and every other 2018er's school holidays) are great fun! K888 and I are here to support y'all <3

OK, welcome all members of the Class of 2018!
Here is where we bring this tired old topic back to life!
I'll start by introducing myself:
I'm studying Yr 11 in Melbourne doing all Unit 1,2 subjects: Methods, Specialist, Chemistry, Physics, Texts and Traditions, and English.
My hobbies are drawing and sport, particularly https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?topic=118667.1860 cricket. My favourite VCE subject is Chemistry, and I really love the feeling of camaraderie that hovers around AN!

Now that we've got the ball rolling, can everyone introduce themselves and we can get this thread back to life as a place where all the 'Class of 2018ers' can get together! ;D

Welcome aboard all...

I'm doing year 11 in Melbourne's west suburbs.
My subjects are mainly 1/2, being English, Methods, Physics, Accounting and Economics, and a 3/4, VCE VET Business Administration.
I am also doing a Cert IV in accounting through a TAFE sort of thing that is connected with the school, so that's cool.
I am also relatively interested in various things...
I love playing soccer, am relatively successful at Basketball, Cricket and AFL, and am trying, in my spare time, to learn German and a Programming language.
I am also attempting to build an electric motor for a go-kart thingymajiggy...
So yeah, hows 2017 treating everyone?

Wow that's really cool!!
Is the Cert IV apart of your VET or will you get a separate Cert I/II/III for Business Admin?
Do you do placements and stuff for your Cert IV in Accounting?
Sometimes you make choices, and sometimes choices make you.

Is anyone applying for School Captain? I'm thinking about it but I have no leadership experience whatsoever and no credentials (basically i'm not entirely sure what i've done with my life.) At my school people of any age can apply to be school captain but it's normally grads who get it (we don't have year levels). This year they haven't asked us to provide details of previous leadership experience which is a good thing for me I guess. I know of one girl who will definitely get it (she does leadership everything), and one guy who probably will (We will have 6 captains).

I'm thinking my only chance is to say that until recently I haven't had the confidence to apply to be a leader (which is true) and then spin it like I will be the best person because I want to encourage other people like me to develop their confidence/get involved in leadership etc.

Any one have any ideas? Or is anyone else thinking about applying?

I recon thats the best way for someone in that position to attack the position.
Make them see that you can show others the way through your experience.

I think I did that a little too well... :D
I was one of seven applying for six positions...
and got kicked out... :(
Apparently, the fact that I had my school laptop taken off me for "IT related charges" about 7 times in the last year was instrumental in the decision.... :D
Ah well... Can't win 'em all... :D

P.S:
Did any1 else have THE BEST final day for the Yr 12's? ???

Originally I was going to go with the whole "yes!! You never know until you try! Take all opportunities presented to you! If you don't you might regret it spiel!11!" and then laughed at myself thinking, why didn't I say that to myself when our captains were being decided?
Then I realised that it was because I didn't want to!
Not only was I like you (but in my case actually disqualified because you needed a couple of years in a committee I never ended up going to), but I couldn't actually see myself in that position. I always thought it would have been great to hold a leadership position, organise our grad events and get a nice badge (haha) but eventually I realised I was putting it down to whether it would be a nice enough addition to my resume.
And honestly, that kind of motivation didn't deserve the position. I tend to see myself as above all a sincere person. I do things because of genuine passion, and in most cases steer clear of things I don't honestly want or like. It dawned on me that trying for school captain or our leadership positions wasn't sincere.
So, with the thought that I'd generally encourage anyone to give anything a go, ask yourself first: do I want this? Am I genuinely a better pick for this than any of my peers? Am I being true to myself?

No need to reply or justify - just food for thought :))

How many positions are up for grabs this year?
Your chances are a realisitcally slim, that being said like others have said it isn't a terrible idea to go for it. It is a Win-Win for you either outcome if you apply.
=> You get it : You can experience what leadership is like and whether you like to pursue in the future
=> You don't get it : You experience the process of going for a leadership position.
I think leadership is much more easily accessible then it has ever been. This is especially for introverted, less confident people with research showing that introverts can be better leaders then extroverts.  I would also not put yourself down so much for you "lack" of experience.

Leadership isn't based only on confidence and having great social skills. It also requires patience, listening, being in control of your emotions, etc. So I would also advertise some other skills you may have that the other current leaders don't like listening. There is always something you have that someone doesn't.
I know in my own experience when I applied to be student representative for my course, I did it because I was the person who would talk to everyone . I wouldn't stick to getting feedback from my own friends and that has paid dividends for me. In that I have improved my ability to talk to strangers, made some friends as well but also got told issues I wouldn't have thought of.

Don't see the current leaders as people who just got it. Some of us did, Most don't. I can almost guarantee that the girl you have written about who took all the leadership positions isn't the greatest at all the parts of it and made some mistakes along the way.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Hence why i'm in all these different threads and boards.
