Do they both show structure of the brain?

fMRI does I believe
PET doesn't

I think PET's structure is maybe less detailed than the others, but still can show structure?

PET and fMRI both show structure and function, but yeah, Boots is correct. The structural image of a PET scan is not very clear and not very detailed.

PET- function
fMRI- both
ESB- which specific parts of the brain initiate/inhibit specific responses
CT - structure
MRI - structure
EEG- electrical activity of the brain (brain wave patterns for sleep etc)
this is what dominicz said a while back, considering he got 47 I think PET only shows function

if something shows function-then it shows some structure except for EEG...think about it-in PET scan u r injecting glucose into the brain, and then using PET scans to detect the movements of the glucose. While you are doing so you are also take pictures of the brain structure-that is how we can determine which areas are most active!

Also in ESB-u r exposing the brain-therefore showing the brain structure

For the purposes of VCE Psych, that is the correct answer

PET shows only function.

yien is correct;

fMRI shows both structure and function

and PET also shows function, as well as structure, its just not quite as clear as other neuroimaging techniques but still, it shows some structure..

PET is functional. No one would use it to show structure alone.

Whaaaaaaaaat! I'm so confused.
i've always thought FMRI and PET show structure AND function while the other techniques just show structure.
I'm wrong? lol

littlebec, I also did not know about this.
Look at the two pictures below and judge for yourself
One is a PET scan the other is MRI scan
Notice how PET is less detailed, looks like something a kid drew with lots of colours
But also notice how MRI is like a photo, very detailed
