Summary book question?

Hey 1&2 student here, my teacher for methods was saying that spine based-summary books are not allowed in Year 12 Exams is this true? Also, did you guys use spine books or just normal books, as your summary books in Year 12? Lastly, did you have the same summary book in Year 11 and 12?

I'm a little bit confused as to why your teacher says that spine-based summary books are not allowed as most books have spines.

I used a different book in Year 12 as a lot of the stuff I had in my year 11 book was too detailed or unnecessary and I wanted to set things out differently
