I totally did not make this thread just to make maths jokes *crosses fingers*

Hi everyone! I'm Shadowxo and you may or may not have seen me around the forum (particularly on the maths threads).
I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne Uni, studying subjects including maths, physics, engineering and economics/finance.
I'm planning on majoring in maths or engineering (they're both really interesting currently!).

I'm part of the Mathematics and Statistics club on campus and I was nominated to be part of the committee! (I am a dedicated maths nerd).
I currently tutor maths which I enjoy.

Journal for today (23/08):
I had another long day at uni, 9am - 5:15pm. I had 3 hours of lectures and a 3-hour workshop that finished early this week! Had to walk home in the rain though  :-\

There were two seperate in-workshop assessments worth 2% each.
- We had to first design (as a group) before the workshop an error corrector to fix errors in code (more complicated than it sounds!) I had to look over it today on the train, found an error in my group's working so had to write out my solution and write the circuit design for that. We were able to use that design to fix a piece of music that had a lot of errors (sounded like static) and made it play beautifully! It took a while to get the program running - we had issues opening the program and getting it to run properly, our design was perfect though.
- We also had a multiple choice test at the start of it. It wasn't too difficult but there were 10 true/false questions that were a bit tough, some tested things that didn't involve problem solving but rather knowledge of terminology or potential uses of equipment. Other than that though I think I did well, I'm optimistic :)

- Yesterday I had to do an Economics test worth 10%, got 14/15 :D studied for quite a while though and always hoping for 100%. I get to see which question I got wrong tomorrow!
- We have an Economics assignment due soon and it looks tough and confusing, not looking forward to that :/

- Tomorrow I have a day off, and plan to complete my engineering assignment, hopefully read over my physics notes and if possible get started on my maths or physics assignments due Sunday/Monday. I also need to get my pre-tute work done for Friday.
Edit: I also need to enrol to vote tomorrow, I keep putting it off because I can't decide on a signature  ::)

Wow I have a large workload.

More maths puns to come!

Confession: I got to the last part but wasn't sure what to use as a signature (current one is too long for my liking). I then needed to reboot my computer and lost all my progress :(

I wrote some of this post yesterday morning so that's why there are two components :P

I'll start this post with a poem:

You make lemonade
When life gives you lemons.
There are exactly 6 weeks
In 10 factorial seconds

24/08
Written at 10am:
I have a day off! So far I have spent an excessive amount of time looking at post-grad scholarships as I was talking about it with family earlier, and avoiding working.
-I have created a to do list. I have 11 things on there to do by the end of this week, including 3 assignments and a lot of revision.
-I've also done the draft for my engineering assignment and plan on writing it up shortly.
-I've been enjoying my day off and have been playing my favourite game while working :P makes the work seem less overwhelming.

25/08
Yesterday:
- I did hardly any work. I ended up writing my assignment and getting it sent off early, then got stuck in a cycle of youtube videos.
-I made some chocolate fudge to go with my cinnamon rolls (I discovered my love for baking recently) :)
-I was able to watch a GoT episode!
- I put off watching my lecture and doing my pre-tute work until about 9pm, and then I had to look over my friend's work for a group assignment last-minute, then had to sign up to vote and before I knew it it was bedtime with no time left for the 2h of work I had left

Today:
-I forgot my phone charger and my pencil case :( needed both, my phone for contacting the boy I tutor (phone has terrible battery) and my stationary to do my pretute work on the train and annotate my notes
-I was able to borrow a charger  from the library :) they're amazing, and secretly stole borrowed a pen (and later a lollipop) from a club room.
-I got a free chocolate-covered strawberry and nutella toastie as I walked past :) it's the little things in life that make you happy
- I managed to watch my lecture during my lunch break
- I looked over the pretute work but wasn't able to complete it. I knew how to do most of the questions though, so everything was alright. I'll do them later this weekend.
-I have tutoring now and already looking forward to dinner.
-This weekend I'm going to have to do all the work I was too lazy to do yesterday.

I used to hate maths, until I realised decimals had a point.

26/08
-I slept in a lot today. And I still feel a bit tired... Uni does that to you. I feel so sleep deprived all the time and end up sleeping through my alarms. I need to start sleeping earlier :P
-I did some work today. Managed to do half of two assignments, plan on finishing them off tomorrow. Stuck on one question though :/
-I made a Thai green curry for lunch today, and a variety of boiled veggies for dinner (both were delicious)

Tomorrow I hope to make a cake if I have time, and look over my notes more :) bit behind on some work but always so busy that I never have enough time to go back over lecture notes, always more and more assignments. I feel as though I spend all my time doing assignments rather than learning the content :-\ it's making things hard.

A chocolate cake, of course!
Luckily I've finished most of the work I have to do (staying up late isn't all bad!) so hoping to relax a bit and catch up on things today :)

Hi :)
I always wear glasses to maths class, they help with division.

Sorry I'm late in my update, I've been really very busy at uni lately :/
23/09
I'm more than ready for the mid-semester break. I feel as though I'm falling behind and my marks are dropping a bit. I feel worn out and so busy all the time, and I don't have enough time to catch up on what I don't fully understand.

Yesterday for my physics prac, we switched demonstrators and had to change partners. Unfortunately, the new demonstrator isn't as nice especially with regards to marking. I was paired with someone that, like me, wasn't sure what to do but didn't do much to figure it out. Also, the prac was longer and harder than normal, with equipment we'd never used that wasn't explained to us. Needless to say, my mark wasn't that great (bummed me out a bit) :/
Hoping to get it back up, need every mark I can get for physics :)

Today in engineering we had a multi-choice test as well as a few in-workshop assessments. One was creating a flowchart worth 1% of our mark. My group didn't do so well, as we only had 2 instead of 3 people and we weren't entirely sure what they wanted our function to do. Hoping to do better in the other assessments though :)

Spent some time in the library with a couple friends, and discovered how they have many different tv shows available to borrow! I'll definitely be checking them out, perhaps before SWOTVAC ;)

Took the night off today, my work can wait a few hours. If I only get home after 6, I deserve at least a couple hours rest :P
Hoping to watch the first ep of S3 of Outlander tomorrow :D excited!

Apart from the assessments in the past couple days, I've done alright. Might need to abandon my WAM goal for this semester though haha. I think I just need some break time and then I'll come back to decimate all my subjects :D

I also made a chocolate cake on Saturday. My brother said something along the lines of the best cake he's ever had so I'll be sure to cook it again in the future :)

(Edit: Added the mandatory maths joke)

Today there's no maths joke, but this is a plot of all the roots for all polynomials of degree 24 with coefficients ±1 (eg 1x24 + 1x23 - 1x22 ... -1x + 1). The solutions plotted are both real and imaginary. The lighter sections have a higher density of roots than darker sections. The "holes" along the x axis are ±1
I just thought this is amazing, especially the patterns that appear, with the feathers and "dragons" (the name for the other shapes around the fringes)

14/09
I slept in today and took the night off last night, so I'm feeling pretty great  ;D
Had a nutella toastie for breakfast and have the day off today, so it's a pretty relaxed day today.
Planning on getting my engineering assignment and economics pre-tute done, maybe even some physics questions if I have time. Looking at the physics assignment, it doesn't seem to be too hard which is great :)

My youtube shuffle finally started working today! :D it's been broken for the past few weeks and I was getting sick of listening to the same few songs haha.

I've been trying to find new tv shows, but thinking I might just read instead. I'm too fussy when it comes to entertainment, and books have this way of transporting you to another world without needing fancy special effects. About 550 pages into my book, only a couple hundred to go :) hoping to finish it before my loan expires. Already renewed it twice.

Tomorrow I have another maths and stats club meeting, where we'll discuss events for the rest of the semester. Currently, we're planning a BBQ and trivia night on the second last and last week of semester :)

I can't wait for the "mid" semester break to come  :P Looking forward to some time off

Nice update, I appreciate having no maths jokes :P

What book are you reading?

How is a nutella toastie done? It seems like good combo.. I want to try it

Also is common for clubs to do collaborations with other university's club?
As I'm currently looking for a club to do an event with to balance out the gender numbers.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Hence why i'm in all these different threads and boards.

How can you not appreciate maths jokes?!

I'm currently reading Outlander. It's a great book and tv show, they really get you to fall in love with the characters. I definitely plan on rewatching the tv show in the future :)
Short introduction: A married woman from the 1940s suddenly gets transported to 200 years earlier. All of a sudden she's in the middle of a war, in an unfamiliar place (Scotland). She's found by some Scots who take her don't trust her, thinking her to be an English spy, and take her back to the castle of their lord. Over time, she gets to know these people and gradually gains their trust and ends up falling in love with one of them, eventually having no choice but having to marry him to protect herself against the English army.
I'm not usually a romance person, but this is the exception. The story has a lot of depth, great characters, and isn't rushed or too slow.

To make a nutella toastie, you just prepare it like a sandwich and toast it using one of those sandwich toasters. It may be simple but it's a nice change, and it's great for when I don't have enough time to eat breakfast before I leave

I'm not sure how often clubs collaborate with each other, but the maths club here usually just holds its own events (open to everyone) and I haven't seen many clubs collaborate. I'm sure some do though :) maybe ask around.
