Drinking Water Warning
« on: August 28, 2020, 11:01:10 am »

Yarra Valley Water saw some untreated water enter the drinking supply due to storm damage, people in Victoria be careful.

Go here for more information. However, you might not be able to access the site due to high traffic, so I've copied the affected areas below:

Quote
Drinking water advice
We’ve become aware of a potential water quality issue affecting 88 suburbs due to electrical damage caused by storms overnight.
These power outages have resulted in some water entering our drinking water supply system and customer taps that had not been treated to the usual standard. Power has now returned and the initial issue has been addressed, however undisinfected water is still within some areas.

If you live in the suburbs below, as a precaution we advise you to bring tap water to a rolling boil before using for drinking, brushing your teeth, food preparation, preparing baby formula, making ice or bathing infants.
Until we can guarantee that the water is safe to drink again, we ask customers to boil their water.

We are working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and Melbourne Water, who own and manage Silvan Dam, to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

We expect water supply to be back to normal later today (Friday 28 August).  We will provide updates on this page.

Our teams are working around the clock to address this issue.

Some suburbs have had their water advice updated, primarily in the north and southeast. Most eastern metropolitan suburbs appear to still be affected.

VicEmergency app says to flush taps for about 2 mins if your water has been fixed.

More information here: https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/media-2.yvw.com.au/boiling-water-notification.html

Pasted some information from the website below:

BOIL WATER ADVICE

PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY - YOUR WATER MAY NOT BE SAFE TO DRINK.

As a precaution we advise you to bring water to a rolling boil before drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula brushing teeth and making ice until further notice.

Boiling water is recommended as a precaution to minimise any health risks. Special care should be taken with young children, people whose immune system is compromised and the elderly.

We are working to return water supply to normal as soon as possible. If you have further concerns, please call us 24 hours a day on 13 2762.

Melbourne Water and Yarra Valley Water would like to apologise for the inconvenience to customers, in particular noting the additional concerns about access to safe drinking water during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Melbourne and thank you for your patience while we resolve this situation.

LATEST UPDATE – SUNDAY 30 AUGUST 2020 – 11:30AM

SUBURBS WHERE BOILED WATER ADVISORY NOTIFICATION HAS BEEN LIFTED

Yarra Valley Water, after consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services and Melbourne Water, advises customers that the Boil Water Advisory issued on 28 August 2020 is now lifted only for the following suburbs.

Water quality testing has confirmed that the water supply in these suburbs is safe to drink.

THE BOIL WATER ADVISORY IS STILL IN PLACE FOR THE SUBURBS BELOW

We are continuing to test water in the remaining impacted suburbs and will lift the boil water advisory once water quality testing confirms that the water is safe to drink in those suburbs.

We will notify customers in these suburbs when the water is safe to drink. Please continue to boil water before drinking, until you receive notification that the water is safe to drink.

If your suburb is not listed, you do not need to boil your water. The list of impacted suburbs is not based on postcode but on how our underground water supply network is configured.

TO ENSURE YOUR WATER IS SAFE

If you live in an affected suburb, we advise you to bring water to a rolling boil before drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth and making ice until further notice.

Boil water in a kettle with an automatic cut-off or on the stove until it boils strongly, with a rapid stream of air-bubbles from the bottom of the kettle or pan.
Once you have boiled the water, allow it to cool.
You can store it in the fridge in clean, closed containers for drinking or food preparation – you do not need to boil it again.
Take care not to injure or scald yourself when you handle boiling water, especially around children.
Unboiled water can still be used for showering and bathing, flushing toilets, washing dishes and clothes and garden watering. Ensure you do not drink water when you are in the bath and take extra care when bathing infants.

Unboiled water can still be used to wash your hands

EMERGENCY DRINKING WATER IS AVAILABLE

If you can’t access boiled or bottled water, call our emergency hotline on 13 27 62.

Emergency drinking water is available at the following locations as these areas are still without power and can’t boil water:

Croydon North – Griff Hunt Reserve, 54 Lyons Road
Mount Evelyn – The Football Ground, 70 Tramway Road
Customers will need to bring your own container to fill up from the tankers.

Note: If you live in Ferntree Gully, which was previously on the list (and not in the quote above), the information so far has been a bit ambiguous. VicEmergency says it’s been the most recently fixed, but not sure what sources to trust at the moment.

EDIT: All Victorian suburbs’ water fixed about 4:30pm/ 5pm  yesterday (30th August 2020). Recommendation is to flush taps for 2 mins to ensure none was left in your pipes and then can be used as normal again.
