Don't rate Clarke at all, but Ponting's field placement has been questionable.

At this point in time Ponting should be made captain, nobody else has a valid claim besides Clarke.

i think cameron white would make a fine ODI captain, and leave the tests to someone else... (katich or haddin?)

haddin? that bloke cannot, string two coherent sentences togther.

Katich is too quite,

I think hussey is the only other man capable, other than poting who should be the captain, for the time being.

Why would there be a change in opinion? Top order failing is pretty independent of how good a captain is

What about the captainship during England's second innings at the GABBA?

My opinion: 'retire after Ashes', hasn't changed though

We all grew up in a time where we had McGrath/Warne/Lee who would just rip through a batting line-up. We had Haddin/Langer/Waugh(s)/Taylor ...all experencied and talented batsmen. Now those guys are gone, we were fortunate to have them, but we are back to the reality of cricket. Ponting can't be held accountable for his bowlers being out of form and his batsmen giving up their wickets cheaply. Sure, he loses his wicket cheaply sometimes but he's still our #1 batsman and there is NOONE else who could be captain right now for the test squad. We can't afford to lose him, not yet.

I agree with that entirely.

Especially with Clarke (VC) underperforming these days...

The selectors need to lift their game and allow Australia to find the next Waugh, Border, McGrath etc.
Cam White has proven to be an excellent Test captain, leading the Bushrangers to the Sheffield Sheild title last year.
Also, don't forget Ronald McDonald (Andrew McDonald). He's a decent all-rounder and has been hitting form lately. Filled in as temporary captain for the Vics and did a great job as well.

Everyone's quick to blame selectors but the fact is there's not much to select from. There's NO spinner in Australia that can clean up half a batting lineup in a day's play. Johnson's our most dangerous bowler when in form and our batsmen right now are the best line-up we have.

We need to wait and hope more talented cricketers come along. In the mean time, lets enjoy some exciting cricket with a little suspense shall we?

Ricky Ponting is a great captain, our current team does not have the talent to match the Australian teams over the last 20-odd years.

+1 But i agree with others in saying that Clarke is not ready for captaincy and that Ponting is the best individual to be captain right now. ALso isnt Clarke injured? Why has he been selected even if does have a minor problem.... YOu cant determine if a player can play 5 strenuous and intense days of cricket from his performance in training or whatever they do... Im sure Hughes who is 100% fit would contribute more than CLarke.

I don't think Clarke would have played, had he not felt 100% fit. The medical team in Australia's camp would have also been consulted as to whether he should play or not. Ultimately the medical team gave him the all-clear to play. If anything, Clarke's just in poor form.

I do agree that Clarke may be in poor form... hopefully he can get some rhythm in the next innings then get a nice score in the 3rd test.
