Is Finance high demand, high risk, but high return?

If you have been reading the news, now is not a good time for finance grads.

100% agree.
I'm considering of changing my Fin/eco major to Acc/fin major, i'm first year right now so i can do that.
My finance1 tutor had accepted a work offer from Lehman brothers which he intended to take after he graduate in a few months time... Bad luck for him

Why change from Economics to Accounting? If anything, this is an important time for economists. Such dire times call for a shake-up of the system.

More risk. BCom/BSc are great now. Both Accounting and Economics is vital for finance, but doing accounting is much better for finance students. Only because they are closely interrelated. (eg. analysing reports and creating future models)

lol, no I don't think you can do a 3rd major because you won't have enough space! lol

I originally desired to do Actuarial (and still might after 1st yr, but highly unlikely now); however due to my burning and overwhelming passion for finance (I love you Citi, I really do <3), I'm going to major in it.
omg, you don't want to do actuarial anymore:o?

I know, I read that and was like WTF?!?!?

Prav has been SWAYED?

That's unpossible!!!

There's a shortage of accountants - good accountants, I mean.

VU keeps churning them out and they only get the crappy jobs.

I believe auditing pays v. well, but v. boring in my opinion.

I'm focusing on finance and find that accounting goes with it better than economics. and if i was to continue for fin/eco i would be aiming for investment banks but you know how it is now.. And a person working in recruitment told me that accounting finds jobs much easier.  Not sure if its better if i do honours in fin/or eco.  Even tho i like economics much more than accounting, o well i still have till next year to decide.

- Quant
- Credit/Market Risk
- FICC (Fixed Income Commodities and Currencies)

And so much more that attracts significant $$$ (providing if it's front desk)

Obviously from an LLB you can enter the legal profession: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,1585.0.html

With a BCom you can do a lot of things: http://www.vault.com/hubs/industrylist.jsp

With a BSc though, at least for mathematics: http://www.ms.unimelb.edu.au/~mscareer/
