Probably. Just go to the lecture and leave 10 minutes early if you don't feel like you need some time before your test to prepare mentally.

Absolutely hate the formatting of the new handbook. Seems so unnecessary to have multiple tabs when you can fit on the one page like in the old handbook. Oh well, guess it only affects current students like anything else in a transitioning phase.

To be fair there is a single-page view, but yeah I wish it were the default.

I did it last year. If I recall correctly I got like 50% or something on the quiz. Still got a H1 for final grade.

Hey guys..
im doing my study plan and i was wondering if it would be okay to do a non-allowed breadth in 3rd year? Like im doing IT and theres heaps of subjects to choose from and so many subjects interest me... so would i be like penalised for picking a breadth related to my major? I wouldve still completed the 4 breadths min.. so instead of doing 6 i'd have 5 breadth subjects altogether

have any of you guys completed a graduate diploma or graduate certificate of science, and used it to enter the master of science? (or have just done one of those courses without the masters?)

is there any point in doing them? :s I was considering it to fill a gap that will be in between finishing my undergrad and doing another course, and also since I'm not doing a b-sc to complete what is basically the equivalent of a science major

The 2016 Dean's Honours List ceremony invitations have been emailed out! Or at least the Arts ones have, not sure about other faculties.
Would be great to see some other ANers there (but prob not cos no-one here does Arts ::))

Has anyone ever had Joel Bornstein as a lecturer? I have never ever been this frustrated by a lecturer. He is a great guy don't get me wrong, but a shocking teacher. He does not know how to explain things, he consistently goes off in tangents, and always contradicts himself.

He is the only lecturer I've ever had that thinks it's okay to go over the lecture time limit by 5-10 minutes EVERY SINGLE lecture. I mean, he has taught for the last ten years or so, surely someone has told him the lecture time limit is 50 minutes? Does he think that the words that come out of his mouth are magic and that we crave for more and more?

Did any past students feel how I'm feeling? I have loved every other lecturer (Pitcher Kitchner, Andrew Allen etc), it's just this guy. Any tips on how to survive him?

Thanks

Keep this mentality with you for the rest of actuarial studies. This is the only valid mentality to have.

Non-joke aside, you should expect a few of the more routine computations (valuation of annuities, conversion of interest rates) but also some Taylor series, which if memory serves well should have appeared on tutorials a couple of times by now (if they haven't changed). There may be some non-standard cash flows for you to value, such as ones which require a minor adjustment in order to use annuity formulae. Also take a hint from your assignments if you've had any.

But obviously whatever your lecturer says trumps everything I've said just then.

Good luck! Just remember that your whole cohort is in the same situation!
