Title: VTAC course selection question
Post by: MaiSakurajima on August 05, 2020, 07:24:17 pm
So I got up to the part where you have to rank your course selections, but when I saw commerce for the University of Melbourne, there were 2 options: 1 for chancellor's scholarship and the other is regular. I'm a bit confused, is it advisable to put both down or should I do the regular one?

Also, if you guys had to choose between Monash double degree commerce and engineering or UniMelb commerce and master of engineering which one would you pick?

Like all courses, if you actually want to get into the chancellor's scholarship put it down. A lot of people who want to do stuff like commerce/science/Biomed at UoM put chancellor's 1 and the regular course number 2.

As for Monash vs unimelb for comm/eng. Typically students go do the monash double degree if they are sure they want to do engineering during highschool. Whilst for unimelb a lot of the times people decide to do engineering during their commerce degree.

So if I do BComm by itself at UniMelb will I still have the option of doing a masters of engineering or do I have to select BComm/engineering in the VTAC?

You will still have the option but you’ll just have to complete the criteria for graduate entry instead. The difference there is the BComm/MEng is a graduate package, so if successful, you’ll have a spot already and need to maintain grades at uni to keep it (I think, you should double check this though) as well as some prerequisites (if necessary). If you do the BComm and don’t have the graduate package, no drama - you’ll just apply closer to the end of your degree for MEng and have to do the prerequisites throughout your commerce degree.
