Your five favourite music artists

Because I'm interested!

I'll start us off:

1 || THE AVETT BROTHERS
So I discovered The Avett Brothers when I was 14 or 15 or something (2008/9), and have since listened to practically nothing else. Like, every single song is just amazing, and the lyrics are absurdly good. They've changed their sound slightly since I first started listening but no matter what they produce, it's incredible. 10/10 would recommend - practically ever major life event (and a lot of minor events) in my mind has an associated Avett Brothers song.

2 || YUSUF ISLAM/CAT STEVENS
Particularly the album Tea for the Tillerman.

3 || JOSH ROUSE

4 || ANGUS & JULIA STONE

5 || JOSH PYKE

And then a bunch of others, like Radiohead, The Smiths and Orla Gartland. Your turn - recommend me some music! ;D

EDIT: Somehow forgot about Jack Johnson! Eep!

OOOOOOO I have some good ones!

1- Aly Michalka
Particularly the song "Someone to Fall Back on" (from the movie Bandslam)

2- Fleetwood Mac
To me, there's nothing like a good sing to any of the songs from the Rumours album ;D

3- ABBA
So many memories. Sadly I'm only the dancing queen for 15 more days

4- Coldplay.
Enough said.

5- The Rembrandts.
Friends (the tv show) wouldn't be bearable without them. ;D

(I would've put Avett Bros in there but J41 nails it ;) )

By the time I've finished, every single person on this forum will appreciate the Avetts. ;D

I'll definitely be checking out your suggestions when I get home!

I'm gonna do purely Aussie artists just cos I reckon they need some love  :P

Cub Sport - Synth-pop band from Brisbane. Got amazing harmonies and they're also super cool dudes – seen them live about 6 times at this point lol. Fun fact - they used to be called Cub Scouts until Scouts Australia threatened to sue. 'Come On Mess Me Up' is a solid starting point.

Saskwatch - Funk band from Melbourne. Solid horns section and insane vocals. Check out 'Keep Me in Mind', 'Give Me a Reason' or 'Second Best'.

Tiny Little Houses - Another Melbourne band, little bit of a lo-fi sadboy grunge kinda vibe. They also post some dank memes on their Facebook page. Give 'Snow Globe' or 'You tore out my heart' a go.

Julia Jacklin - Kinda folk-y singer from Blue Mountains, NSW. Her lyrics are stunning and her voice is just as good. She's a relatively new artist (made her first release last year) but she's a fantastic songwriter and her music really stays with you. Check out 'Pool Party', or try 'Don't Let the Kids Win' if you feel like having a bit of a cry. 'Motherland' is another favourite.

Ball Park Music - Band from Brisbane, would probably describe them as indie-rock/pop I guess? They specialise in wrapping nihilistic lyrics in happy-sounding music. I've seen them 8 times live now and would still happily see them again – they're v v good. 'She Only Loves Me When I'm There' is a great place to start, otherwise 'Whipping Boy' is a good one off their latest album.

There are a few others I wanna mention like Haitus Kaiyote and Megan Washington but I'll leave it at 5 cos otherwise I'll be here all day :P

1. Melanie Martinez
2. That Poppy (you may recognise her as that really creepy youtuber but her music is actually dope, and includes a subtle critique of capitalism so what's not to love  ;))
3. Imagine Dragons (First concert, so they'll always have a soft spot)
4. The Beatles
5. Sia

Good idea! I'll attach an example too and a small description (I don't know how many people will know them) :D I'll be sure to give some of these artists a listen!

1. Blind Guardian German power metal band. Typically sing about fantasy -- folk tales, Tolkien, GRRM, 'Wheel of Time' series, 'The Dark Tower', Peter Pan, blahblahblah, whatever you can think of. They do everything from really fast-paced songs to slower ballads.

2. Opeth Prog metal band. Their songs (like the one I linked) typically progress from melodic, deep sounds to intense growling. Lyrics sometimes give off a pretentious vibe, but I love the sound. They do a lot of concept albums.

3. Ensiferum Folk metal, wooo. Lyrics are about typical Viking stuff -- don't expect much variety. Their songs are great for getting pumped up though.

4. Ne Obliviscaris Prog band from Melbourne. I was listening to them for yeeaarrs, when they were mainly doing pub shows, but one I turned 18, they got big and did a world tour, so I missed out. Damn! More growling than clean singing. Their violinist really makes the band! Just listen to the 2 minute intro I linked, and you'll fall in love!

5. Wintersun Uhh, don't really know what sub-genre they'd fit into -- does epic count? It gives off an epic vibe. Don't really know how to describe these guys other than intense.

Special shout out to Eluveitie for not only playing the best show I've been to yet, but for Anna (female singer/hurdy-gurdier being the most approachable musician I've ever met!

1. Coldplay
Their music makes me feel as though I am on cloud nine (the instrumentals are beautiful as well as Chris Martin's voice). Para-para paradise  :D
2. Imagine Dragons
The down-to-earth nature of their music as well. The guys seem really nice and genuine as well.
3.Adele
Her voice and unique personality (and Britishness)
4. Birdy
Her crisp and delicate voice. I love her version of A-team.
5. Eminem
His empowering, honest (love the way you lie) and motivating songs. If I'm in a shitty mood, I'll listen to him.

Maybe it was a combo of both? :)

everyone listens to such... nice artists. like traditionally skillful artists and people who sing about things with meaning. I feel very embarrassed by my favourite artists but yolo ill post them anyway. I mainly listen to rappers these days. Not sure if its because all my friends listened to it in primary school and I just grew up with it, or if i really enjoy it LOL.

1. Chief Keef
Best hype song: 'Love Sosa' (made it when he was 16 under house arrest, absolute banger). Closest thing to a love song on my iphone: 'Can You Be My Friend'

2. Young Thug
Best song: 'With That'.   Honourable mention to his song 'Lifestyle' which is what made him famous but is actually his worst song

3. Rick Ross
Best song: 'Family Ties'. Shoutout to him for losing like 60kg over the last year by eating pears all day

4. Bryson Tiller
He's only got one album but the whole thing is amazing. best songs: '502 Come Up' 'Don't' & 'Rambo'

5. Playboi Carti
Not yet hit the mainstream but will blow up soon. Best song: 'Woke Up Like This'
