Most boring football match. Why do we get public holidays for that crap? -.-

Wasn't it. I knew it was over within the first 15 minutes - their ball movement was too fast for West Coast. W/ Josh Kennedy kicking no goals, that signals something went wrong. I was looking forward to it as well, seeing West Coast thump Hawthorn - but it wasn't meant to be!

I still would have been happy if Hawthorn won, but was a close, unpredictable, exciting match. As you said after the 15th minute it was obvious on who was going to win. So much build up to the grand final, even a public holiday but the match stank.

If that is supposed to be a game between ''the two best teams'' the AFL has serious problems.

Definitely. West Coast had no excuses either, they got a week off as well during the Semi-Finals. Hawthorn had to do it the hard way this year, every finals match. It just proves that ladder position doesn't necessarily stick during the finals

1. Fremantle - W-L- (Defeated by Hawthorn)
2. West Coast - W-WL (Defeated by Hawthorn)
3. Hawthorn - LWWW
4. Sydney - LL-- (Defeated by North Melbourne)
5. Richmond - L--- (Defeated by North Melbourne)
6. Western Bulldogs - L--- (Defeated by Adelaide)
7. Adelaide - WL-- (Defeated by Hawthorn)
8. North Melbourne - WWL- (Defeated by West Coast)

You can see there that 5/6 position eliminated at the first hurdle, 8th made it through to prelims, 7 to semis and so on... I reckon there needs to be a system change of sorts to stop this scenario happening again (e.g. Hawthorn winning 3 possibly more in a row).

AFL is flawed. They need to lose the finals system and stick to the to of the ladder. I know for soccer, it almost makes every second weekend feel like a final.

Hmm... Wrong thread.

The fact that a team in 8th position can overtake literally 4th - 7th via eliminations signals a flawed system indeed. Something needs to happen, that's for sure. The fact that the Qualifying Final winners get a week off as well is really disadvantageous to the other sides participating in finals. I know it's their reward for ranking high on the ladder, but seriously... You may as well discount any team that isn't in the top 4 from winning the GF, or more so, make the finals just the top 4 if you're going to allow sides to have a break in between.

I just want to point out that I do barrack for North Melb so I am in no way discounting their ability, but it shouldn't be allowed to happen regardless of who is in what position.

The AFL needs a relegation system to the VFL or something
The best team in a lower division could do better than Carlton for example..

Haven't really been following the off-season because I've been so busy but looking forward to seeing how Collingwood progress this year. So many list changes and very exciting prospects like Adam Treloar to play should make their season exciting. I don't think they will get too far though.

Other interesting things will be seeing how Hawthorn go, their defence will have many holes this year.

Essendon will be interesting. Do they deserve to play on ANZAC day? Will they win a game?

oooh and for those who follow the Footy Show the Garry Lyon saga will be interesting.

I think Essendon are being underestimated. Their top up players have quite a lot of skill when pushed to their limit. One example is Nathan Grima, who was a former Roo (my team). Gun player, but a shame what happened to him which meant an early retirement. I don't understand why he's back playing though....... Anyway, I think they will win a few games at least. If anything, I think they'll be better under John Worsfold.

I know the NAB challenge is nothing, but we vs the Hawks on Sat night. Will be interesting to see how we fare against them (at Etihad too!)

In terms of the Footy Show, I watched a portion of it last night and it was very awkward... You could tell something was missing. I like James Brayshaw because he's the president (or chairman, or whatever you wanna call it) of the Roos, but I dunno whether he's the right person for the main gig.

I've been keeping up to date with the new draftees we got, and they are doing super well so far. Can't wait for the season to start!

Hiya AFL fans!

Round 1 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season 2016 is rapidly approaching, with the Tigers set to take on Carlton on Thursday night.

With this in mind, i've created a 2016 tipping competition for AN users (feel free to join). What you need to do:

1. Sign up using the official AFL website (http://tipping.afl.com.au/)
2. Go to "Comps" -> "Join a Comp"
3. Where it says "Enter comp code or name" enter in TMKSUHD3
4. Join

Your weekly tips and overall scores will be handled by the AFL system, so please don't contact me about this!

Wishing everyone the best of luck with their tipping this season. Submit your tips by Thursday!
