Is Bio or Psych better in VCE?

Personally I think psychology but some others think different.

All I know is the guys that talk with me about psychology are awesome. :)

If this thread turns into a psych/bio argument there will be consequences.

You should do what suits your interests in terms of future career goals.
E.g: if you 're looking for med, then bio is a great option - as it gives you a solid scientific basis for more complex medical sciences
or, if you are looking for a science degree or are just interested, then psych is a good option.
Either way, they are both great subjects and it wouldn't exactly hurt to do both if you like science.

Bio seems to be more useful for uni purposes. It will come in handy for first year uni. Psych on the other hand, seems not as 'necessary' to start early. A major in psych at melbourne uni doesn't even need first year psych, let alone vce psych.

edit: from personal experience, these bio vs psych threads never end well, just sayin

Massive +1, they're both really great subjects.

After having done them both I really did enjoy them a lot, so much so that I'd say they're my two favourite subjects. Although I do have to say I'm not keen at all on the plants section of biology (luckily I've only had a few encounters) and overall I have a greater passion and interest in the psychological field. But at the end of the day these subjects are quite similar, they focus on different areas but they complement each other well and most importantly they're extremely relevant which is why I think they're both equally valuable and awesome :)

I did both this year and I would definitely pick Biol over psych any day! - Biol is so much more interesting and you can see its applications all around you (mainly because the exam questions are very much application questions), so you are sort of require to really engage with the content! However Im not saying psych is not as interesting, its just a different way of learning and being examined - Its more about rote learning than understanding in depth the concepts, because the questions are (generally) set our in an easy way (you're either right or wrong) - with little need to interpret or analyse new scenarios (like biol).

Mind you, my opinions about biol over psych were also influenced to a large extent by my teachers for both subjects (my biol teacher was one of the best teachers i have ever had!)

So yes, they are both great subjects - it really just depends on what you want from them and the teachers at your school

Best of Luck! :D

2012 - English (?), Accounting (?), Revolutions (?), Methods (?)

Psychology seems like a great subject, honestly, however my teacher bought me to hate it, concepts/definitions and everything confused me and he made it really dry and monotonous... :(

Though I must admit, I enjoyed learning the proper definitions of the simple phenomena that we experience.

I haven't done Biology so I can't make a fully informed judgement about which is 'better' but what really irritates me is the tendency for people to become condescending and ridicule people doing Psych instead of a so called "proper" science subject. Please stop doing this.
