Tacking on to the question, but what is the difference as well with the Advanced program?
2010 - 2013: Bachelor of Software Engineering - Monash (completed w/ alternative exit to B. Comp Sci)
2014 - 2016: Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) - Monash

Found this:
'Very high achieving students can apply to be admitted to the Bachelor of Biomedical Science Scholars
Program. Biomedical Science Scholars complete the same academic program as other students but also
have access to a range of development opportunities. Depending on prior experience and capabilities (such
as previous tertiary study, including secondary school year 12 enhancement studies), students in the
Scholars program may be given exemptions from some core units, allowing them to accelerate their studies
and compete the course in less than three years. Students may also overload their enrolment from first
year to further shorten the time frame to complete the course. Each student's program will be planned
according to student interest and with consideration of academic background. Biomedical Science Scholars
(who are Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian permanent resident or permanent
humanitarian visa) will also receive an annual scholarship while they remain enrolled in the Program.'

So more research focus and scholarship money in the scholars program by the looks of it.

From what iv'e read from the advanced program it seems like a more research focused degree then biomedical science itself also it is 4 years rather then 3. https://www.study.monash/courses/find-a-course/2017/biomedical-science-advanced-m3004

So overall it looks like if you do honours for either biomed advanced or scholar's program it is like the bachelor of philosophy honours at ANU  http://programsandcourses.anu.edu.au/program/APHSC

Thanks Heart

Can anyone confirm or deny that those in the biomed scholars program must do a 3rd year research project. Im not too interested in research and I am using the biomed degree as a bridging course so I would think the standard degree is better for me.

Can confirm (source: doing the research project unit right now).

Both Scholars and Advanced with Honours must complete a 3990 research unit in their 3rd year.  :-\

Thanks for the response

Is it more difficult that doing a regular 3rd year elective, would this nerf someones GPA or WAM?

TL;DR: It is more difficult in the time-consuming sense, and usually no effect on GPA and WAM (unless you are aiming for 90+ WAM).

Long answer:
That is a tough question to answer...just thinking off the top of my head, your grade for the 3990 unit will be dependent on:
-Department: The other supervisors marking your work (some subjectivity cannot be avoided...)
-Project requirements: 'Bad' results are alright, but, you have to understand 100% what you are doing/have done.
-Your commitment/effort: The required contact hours is 12/week, although I have heard of both people spending less and more (9-5 every day, with breaks for lectures and labs, during normal semester), this really depends on your project and supervisor. I am clocking in 30-40 hours/week, but this is the Summer semester.

Finally, grades. In my opinion, if you are capable to do a 3990 project, a D is guaranteed; but, usually with effort it is a HD (80s).

Anyway, although so far it has been a tough experience, I have been really enjoying my time with research, so don't disregard it yet!

P.S. I forgot to mention before that the unit has to be in a biomed related (e.g. physiology) department.

the same up to 3rd year. You have to take a research unit in 3rd year and then complete an honors year. Unless you want to do research then it is pretty much just a glorified version of the biomed degree. If you are looking to do med, you have the option of dropping the honors year and going into regular biomed in 3rd year. Doesn't affect WAM when being considered for the graduate med entry as they only look at your first 2 years of biomed study (generally looking for a WAM of at least 80 to get an interview).

Is this in reference to scholars vs regular?

Oh just for clarification scholars doesnt equal advanced. They are different degrees, scholars being 3 years and advanced 4 years.
EDIT: Seen above edit  :)

yep sorry, advanced is the same with the extra research. scholars is the same but you have to maintain a higher WAM (can't drop below 70). again it's just about prestige, no real significant advantage.

No sorry I was getting confused with advanced. people only move from advanced to regular in order to save time, especially if they got into med, there is no point in doing the research stuff. People doing scholars don't need to move as it still takes only 3 years to complete. No point in moving because to get anywhere in biomed you need a high WAM anyway.

For those who complete biomedicine scholar program, can they use the degree to apply for medicine post-grad?
