Title: Ask your questions about ATARNotes here!
Post by: heids on July 19, 2016, 03:40:16 pm
Getting started in a new forum is SUPER.  CONFUSING.  We're here to help so feel free to ask ANY questions you have, no matter how big or how small, about how ATAR Notes works :D

The lecture slides (such as this one for chemistry) can all be found under the "Notes" section of the forum. There is a bit of scrolling needed.

Hello. How do we know how many posts we have posted?

You can see by either going to 'My Profile' at the top right hand corner. Or simply see it on the left side of each of your post.

What do all the different coloured and different amount of squares under each username mean?
Is there a national database to discover these intricacies?

Well colours wise

Red - administrators
Blue - national moderators
Green - subsection moderators

They are shown just in the ATAR notes leading team thread or whatever it was called.

Numbers wise, for yellow users it's just reflective of post counts I think... more posts = more boxes

Also, to add to that, all section/National mods and admins have 5 coloured boxes, regardless of post count. :)

How do I add a spoiler?

Hi there,

To add a spoiler, use the following:

Code: [Select]
[spoiler]content here[/spoiler]
The result is this:
Spoiler
content here

Give it a go!

Alternatively - you can click the 'Sp' button when writing a new reply instead of using the quick reply box underneath each thread.

Also if you want your spoiler to say something different besides spoiler just go
for example, if you want it to say click here. Dont forget the /spoiler in brackets as well!

Give it a go yourself! Just dont forget to close it like so :)

To make this a little clearer (with the addition of code):

Code: [Select]
[spoiler=Type whatever you want the spoiler to be 'called' here]And then content here[/spoiler]
Resulting in:

Type whatever you want the spoiler to be 'called' here
And then content here

No such thing as a stupid question :)

And as far as I know, there is no difference between members and registered users.

You can delete your own replies, however you aren't allowed to delete your thread.

Which in general, shouldn't be a problem either. Is there any particular reason you want to delete a thread?

As Rui said, usually we don't delete threads. The reason is that even if your question has been answered or it no longer applies, the discussion within might be useful to someone else ;D

We are essentially a massive archive of information and knowledge... we usually will not allow deletions of threads as they may be important or relevant to another person (as has been stated above). However, if there is a genuine reason why you think it should be removed (e.g. due to a privacy concern), please feel free to contact a national mod or report the thread with 'request deletion' as the reason/message, and the mod who handles the report will use discretion to determine whether it would be in the best interest of AN for your thread to be removed.

I am stating this because I handle (on the odd occasion) requests from users to remove threads due to reasons other than personal preference.

Thanks.

Thank you RuiAce, jamonwindeyer and Aaron for your swift replies.

I just wanted to delete a thread I made asking if anyone wanted to group up with me for a UMAT package discount. I only recently exceeded the max. number of people allowed into the group so thought it would be best to delete the thread just in case more people message me in the future.

I don't really see much point for it to stay on the forum as it's misleading and no longer relevant. But I totally understand why general questions about subjects could be helpful to everyone regardless of whether the poster was satisfied with the answer they got.

I can report the thread if that'll make it easier for you moderators to find. Just let me know  :)

how do i get respect on ATAR NOTES??
Hey there! :)
Respect (as in the points you see on your profile) is earnt here by gaining upvotes on posts. Upvotes are usually given by other users if a post is super helpful  (i.e. you help someone with a question on a subject's question thread).
To upvote someone, there should be a section at the top RHS of the user's post that has the symbols - and + (Upvoting is the plus symbol of course ;) ) (except for your own, you can't upvote yourself! )
Hope this helps and let me know if you need clarification! :)

how do i get respect on ATAR NOTES??

On the top right-hand corner of every post, there's a small number with a plus and minus next to it; people who think the post is useful (or funny or anything else positive) hit the plus/upvote button, and if you get enough, that gradually adds up to respect.

(If you want to know, the mechanism is this.  On a single post:

+1 gains you 0 respect
+2 = 0 respect
+3 = 0.4 respect
+4 = 0.8 respect
+5 = 1.2 respect

and so on.  In other words, each upvote EXCEPT the first and second on a post gets you 0.4 respect.  So a million posts with +2 each won't get you anywhere, but a single post with +12 will get you 4 respect.)

You could always go check your own post history in your profile if you're after your own exact post.

But if you want to view the replies to your's, if it's buried among hundreds of them then you probably didn't check up on it enough. Might wanna check back more often if that is the case. Otherwise, it should only be in the last 2 pages at most, and you can always use Ctrl+F to find your name, and thus find your post.

Searched in places (not too many admittedly) and I give up.

What does respect mean and how do you gain it? The one with a little + under your profile thing

I don't see a give respect button or anything alike.

Respect is the amount of "upvotes" (or downvotes- if negative- hopefully that will never happen :) )
To give respect (or more commomly known as upvoting), you click the + button at the top a person's post (which is next to the negative sign)
Keep in mind that to get "+1" respect, you need 3 upvotes (to get you to 1.2 respect iirc)
Hope this sheds a little light and I'll leave it for someone else to find the respect/upvotes chart :)

Ahh I see. I thought the upvote button was similar to Reddits upvote system where it pushes it up or prioritises it. Will upvote posts worthy of an upvote from now :)

Thanks, Wales

Be generous with it - We need more people using the function on the NSW end! ;D the specifics -

+1 = 0.4 Respect
+2 = 0.8 Respect
+3 = 1.2 Respect
+30 = 12 Respect

But it doesn't increment unless you have at least a full extra point - So while lots of '+1's' actually won't do anything for your Respect count, one post with '+10' will increment it by 3! :)

It will decrease your post count and it will be removed from the thread.

Pardon, could you please explain the second part? If you wish to keep a record of a post, I suppose you could always save it to a Word document, but I don't really see a need for this :)
Title: Re: Ask your questions about ATARNotes here!
Post by: Aaron on January 07, 2018, 08:24:27 pm
in regards to saving posts, posts that you delete are recoverable by a natmod or admin. So if you delete one by accident just let one of us know and we'll recover it.

Posts that are deleted reduce your post count and are soft removed. Refer above.

If your post was removed by a mod due to infringement of the forum rules, then we will not recover it if you ask us to.

other people's posts will remain. Also, if anyone quoted your post that quote stays unchanged.

Yes, this is true (assuming you mean thread, not post? If it's just a post being quoted, refer to Sine's answer).. However, if somebody has helped you on a thread you've created, don't delete your post -- that's not in the ATAR Notes spirit.

From the Rules of the ATAR Notes Forum
Quote from: Posting Etiquette
-Don’t delete your posts after you’ve had the question answered or your concern addressed. The question and answer can definitely be useful to other users in the future. Moderators may restore deleted questions if they feel it necessary.

Hello! I was wondering what counts as a post and what doesn’t? (in terms of marking eligibility) I’m aware that replies like “thank you” and non-content discussions don’t count, but what about questions on content? e.g.) “I need help on trig identities, I attached my working below” - would posts like this count as a “post”?

Hey,
So anything that contributes to the thread counts as a post. For instancw, asking a question on the relevant thread, answering questions, and just being a contributor to the thread all become valid posts.

I'm pretty sure they still accept posts such as "thank you" if you're thanking someone for their contribution, but don't make it a habit.

Hey! OG's got it - Essentially, post to benefit yourself, benefit others, benefit the community. Don't post just to get the marking - It's really obvious and it won't work. We offer the marking as a reward for people enriching the community ;D

There originally was an app already for iOS. There was nothing really special about it and it has since been taken down. There are plans later on for ATAR Notes on the phone but I don't believe they have been disclosed yet.

In the meantime, you can access ATAR Notes through the Tapatalk app.

How do I attach an image in my post? Does it have to be through a spoiler?
I don't know what to do next after clicking on the insert image or spoiler icon when I have to attach an image from my desktop!

Same thing happens with PM...

Could you help me out?
Thanks so much!  :)
I think that you have to use Imgur, upload the pic to Imgur and then click on 'Get share links', copy the BBCode link and paste it into the post.

Hey, so there are a couple ways you could approach this:

(1) Attachments
The first way is through an attachment. So when you're replying to a topic, there will be a hidden menu that says 'Attachment and other options'. Click on it, and find the follow:
Then you just have to choose the file you would like to upload.

Attached is an example of an image being uploaded!

(2) Photo hosting site
Alternatively, you could post your image onto an external photo hosting site, such as Imgur, PhotoBucket, etc. All you have to do is click on one of the links and follow the site to the image being uploaded. On Imgur, there will be a link, a button called 'Copy' and a button next to it.
Hover over the arrow, and click on 'Get shared links'. Copy the link that says 'BBCode (Forums)' and paste it here.

Hopefully, this helps with your problem!

Does it have to be through a spoiler?
It does not have to be in a spoiler, spoilers just stops the page from lagging too much (as you have to open the spoiler for the image to load).

Hey! So if you are on a Desktop, you'll see little Up/Down arrows next to every post from another user. A users respect is tied to how many '+1's' their posts have gotten ;D

The respect is related to the up-voting of posts. Each up-vote past +2 adds to a respect aggregate which is rounded to the respect value that appears on your profile. Trust me, this forum is a great place to hang out in. Have fun ;D

Just to add onto the other replies, here's an excerpt about respect from the forum rules:

Quote
Most sections of the forums have an awesome thing that appears to the top right of the post – A respect meter and the option to ‘upvote’ or ‘downvote’ a post. We encourage everyone to upvote any post they find even remotely helpful – these slowly add up to increase the respect count on the profile of the person doing good stuff, and gives them a small form of recognition for their great work.

The formula is:
+1 = 0 Respect
+2 = 0 Respect
+3 = 0.4 Respect
+4 = 0.8 Respect
+5 = 1.2 Respect etc…

Lots of small posts with ‘+1’ won’t increase the respect count on your profile, but one great one with ‘+17’ will increase your respect count by 6.
Don’t downvote posts for no reason. Targeting a specific user’s posts or just downvoting everything in sight is definitely not allowed under any circumstances.

Hey! I don't really know how to post a separate question so I'll just ask on this forum.
For English Advanced Module C (People and Politics with The Crucible), is Dead Poet's Society an effective related text? Our question is on political perspectives and personal interests. I was thinking about doing the politics of tradition, what other types could I discuss?

Hi there! Welcome to the forums :)

It sounds like your question would be best suited for the English Advanced Question thread, which is here.

The forum can be a bit of a confusing place to navigate at first, but you'll be familiar with it in no time! :)

If the thread is busy and your post has been shifted back a page or two, sure, feel free to give a little, "Hey guys, just bumping this as it got missed, would love some help!" shout out. I think being polite is key - No one is going to be sympathetic if you start being sarcastic/mean spirited because you don't get a reply within a day, which thankfully doesn't happen often ;D

I'm making out as if there is are concrete rules, there aren't any. Basically, bumping a question is fine if it isn't annoying anyone. Bumping anything after less than a day or two, or bumping something multiple times, would be what I'd consider annoying bumping :)

Best emoji ;) a "bump" is fancy forum language for posting again in a thread to put your question back to the most recent/top of the list. So say, you post a new thread and it doesn't get any responses, posting again after a couple of days is "bumping" that thread back to the top.

Traditionally, it's semi-bad forum etiquette - But like, the forum is busy, stuff gets missed, no issues with politely giving a little, "Hey guys, would still love some help with this!" if you need to :)

So if our question hasn't been answered within a day, we're allowed to politely bump it if necessary?

keywords are "if necessary"

Ask yourself why you want to bump.. is it because you're impatient or is it because your post got lost in another conversation? Don't forget peeps who answer questions on here are doing so voluntarily so to expect an answer ASAP is unrealistic.

If it's been a day or so and still no response, then I don't see any problem if you want to bump once. Of course, if you continued to bump more than once then one would have to question whether or not it's spam.

Hey,
If you scroll down on the home page you will see different tabs. You clicked on the first tab under administration to get here, called 'New Users Lounge'. If you scroll down a little bit you will see a blue heading that says 'VCE stuff'. Below that are a few different options, click on the one that says 'VCE' then 'English studies' then 'VCE English and EAL'

This is the screen you will see
(https://i.imgur.com/fnU7tUn.jpg)

The area in red shows how you have navigated through the site (which tabs you clicked on). To ask a question you can either post in the 'VCE english question thread' (that's the first post) - This is for small questions. If you want to ask a question like the example you gave you should click on the blue button at the top (i've circled it in green) to start a new topic.

This is the link directly to the English board.

Also there is a video in the post here that shows you how to navigate around the site.

The screen will look a bit more spread out if you're on a computer - I'm on mobile, but it's otherwise the same.

As a rule of thumb

- Anything below 2 - No. This will be treated as spam.
- Over 7 - That's fine, because you've waited long enough
- Anything between 2 to 7 - Depends. We'll treat it on a case by case basis.

There's really no rules here - Like, I like Rui's breakdown above I guess, but really just use your common sense! Like, the forums are pretty much just like a regular room full of people chatting. Bumping a post is sort of like bringing up a topic you already talked about.

If you bump stuff a lot, you become that person that always brings up the same topic and everyone's like, "Uh, for God's sake ______ you bring this up all the time." So yeah, like - There's no rules around it, we sort of just trust people to understand when things become annoying :)

Hey!

I've just uploaded some notes and want to upload some more. However, when submitting, ATAR notes bugged out. I want to see if the notes I submitted went through before I continue but don't know where to check to find out.

Also, can I put my notes into a 'playlist'? I usually make a word document per topic or test so I want to upload each one and let people click something to find the full set.

I'm also a little confused over the 'Unit' setting. From what I understand WACE sorts Semester 1 Year 11 as Unit 1, Semester 2 Year 11 as Unit 2, Semester 1 Year 12 as Unit 3 and Semester 2 Year 12 as Unit 4. So when the options only provided Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 I was quite confused... I think this must be the format used by SACE and VCE and was hoping someone could tell me what they equate to.

Thank you!

Hey! Welcome to the forums - Love that you are helping us build our library of WACE Notes! ;D

- Notes pending approval can only be seen by the admins. I see one file from you, "Critical Analysis - Compare and Contrast Structure.docx" - Sorry that it bugged out! I've seen the server have a quick and tiny hissy fit if a lot of people are online :)

- Every note you upload will have your username attached, and yep, there's an option to see all the notes you have uploaded :)

- I'm pretty sure WACE is Stages 1-3 (and also P-Stage units that sort of lead into Stage 1, as is my understanding). I don't know much but I can't see any Stage 4 courses in the WACE curriculum :)

How do you respect people? (like on their profile?)

Hey. :) So respect is linked to upvoting on posts. Basically:

* If you get +3 on a post, you get +0.4 respect
* Any +1 after that +3 on a post gets you an extra +0.4 respect

So like, a post with +5 upvotes will get you 1.2 respect. A post with +10 upvotes will get you 3.2 respect.

To upvote, you just use the up arrow at the top right of each post. For example, I've just upvoted your post, so it should now have +1. :)

This might be a good spot for stuff like this, but that's okay!! Super complicated question, but essentially, absolutely you can. The actual HSC is really the key bit in determining your marks, doing well there will offset a lot of less than ideal results from earlier in the piece ;D

I guess that's my school, there are even teachers who point out your ranks rudely and ask you what's the point of being at school if you're not smart, so I like seeing the positive interactions here. It motivates me to work hard, and I can hope to achieve 80 despite my internal marks :)

I would advise you to send a PM (Personal Message) to one of the mods asking to change your name, and they will do it for you.

Hey. :) So this is directly from the forum rules. I think it was jamonwindeyer who wrote this.

Let us know if you have any other questions about it. :)

How do I 'unsubscribe' from a topic? As attached in the screenshot, I get notified about any new posts in the thread and I'm not sure how to get rid of it permanently. Thank you! :)

For a specific topic, there should be a button up the top right hand corner of the thread. Find the 'Unnotify' button.

If it says Notify instead of Unnotify, then something else is triggering your notifications.

I think she is talking about how to get something to not show up in "Show new replies to your posts"...
Regardless I would like to know if that is possible.

Heyo! Welcome to the forums. :)

Your best bet is to give the ATAR Notes office a call: 9916 7760. That way, you can ask any of your other questions at the same time, and a tutor or other staff member can run you through what the program involves more specifically. :)

Alright, this is a pretty involved bit of exploring, so get your gumboots on and let's go.
1. Hover your mouse over your Profile button.
2. An 'account settings' button will appear on the menu below that. Click it.
3. This will bring you to a page called 'Profile - Account Settings'. Just above all the settings stuff, there's a little blue button that says 'modify profile'. Hover your mouse over that.
4. Another fold-menu will appear, and at the bottom of that list there's a link labelled 'Ignore Boards Options'. This will bring you to a WALL of different boards, and if you want to prevent a board from being seen by you entirely, you can find it in this list and tick it's box, then scroll aaaallll the way down and hit 'save'. After that, any topics you ticked to ignore will disappear and not bother you anymore. :)

Hopefully that was a clear explanation - it just takes a little sleuthing.

Hey there, welcome to AN!
This thread is actually just for general questions about how this forum works, not for queries on science.
If you're currently completing VCE, click here for the VCE science boards.
If you're completing the HSC, click here for the HSC science boards.

If you have any other questions about the site, don't hesitate to ask a moderator or admin. :))

I'm sorry if this sounds kinda stupid, but I've found several articles and threads on AN written by and for HSC students, or mainly refer to the HSC. How much does the content within these articles/threads apply to VCE students? Is there much of a difference in how to attain exemplary results between NSW and VIC? I mean, would you give the same advice to Year 12 students wanting to do well regardless of which secondary education system/state they're from?

- From a Victorian, if that wasn't already obvious.  :)

Hey again!

I'm not too sure how much of the content overlaps but articles addressing general study tips, student wellbeing and any other advice that you might find applicable can be taken on board  ;D You can also access VCE articles here if you were looking for more specific subjects  8)

It really depends on the thread.  For example,  HSC has a different assessment structure so advice on when & how to study around major events will be different than for Victorians. On the other hand,  things like ways of structuring notes, using flashcards effectively etc will be easily applicable to all states (as Angelina has highlighted)

You can probably trust your judgement in regards to what applies to you and what doesn't.

In what situations would double posting on the forums be acceptable?
It's a bit up to mod discretion about where exactly the line is on what's appropriate/what's not appropriate, but generally:
- Double posting in your journal is fine, assuming it's a reasonable time later (e.g. 10 mins later isn't fine)
- Double posting when the thread hasn't been posted in for a while is fine. e.g. in general discussion threads that hasn't been posted in for several days
- Double posting in question threads depends a bit on the time and what the last post was. If the last post was a thank you message or something similar then it's probably fine to post a new question separately (if it's at least several hours later), if the last message was an unanswered question then it's better to edit your new question in unless it's been several days.

Also worth noting that we do make mistakes sometimes so if you think you've been told off for something and you don't think you did anything wrong or don't know what you did wrong, then just message one of us :)

Needlessly posting twice in a row (generally speaking, on the same thread).

Hi SC_15,

Welcome to the ATAR Notes forum :)

This is a great question! Click on one of blue links below depending on your state.
- If you're from Victoria, you can post in the VIC Education Discussion Board
- If you're from NSW, you can post in the NSW Education Discussion Board
- If you're from Queensland, you can post in the QLD Education Discussion board
- If you're in Year 9 or Year 10, each state's board (minus QLD) has a child board where you can discuss topics about Year 9 and 10, including VCE subject selection.

Hope this helps :)

I think this would warrant a post in the VCE subject selection child board in the VIC Year 10 Discussion board! Posting in here can help other (current and future) Year 10s find your post more easily, should they be in a similar situation as you :)

So, you can navigate as follows: Click on VIC Education Discussion. You will then see the VIC Year 10 Discussion childboard. Click on this. Then you have arrived at your final destination, the VCE Subject Selection child board. Click on this and press New Topic at the top of the board.

Your screen should look something like this (I'm not using my laptop at the moment so if you are, yours will look slightly different).

I don't think users can delete a topic create. Let me know which topic you would like deleted and I'll have a look.

If it is your stage 4 COVID, special considerations thread I am happy to delete it.

Generally, I don't like deleting topics which have questions and answers given others can benefit from them at a later date.

My school was not listed so I had to choose another school that is near mine. Is there any way to add a school that is not listed or to add to for the future?

Hey JasonDS,

Welcome to ATAR Notes! I'm sorry to hear your school wasn't listed; if you shoot us an email, we'll see if we can add it for you. :)

Hi!
first post/comment from me, so forgive me if this is in the wrong space - still trying to navigate the site (which just seems to keep revealing more new resources! its nonending! its fascinating! the gift that keeps giving)
anyways, my question is if there are online/pdf versions of PURCHASED ATAR notes books - it would be handy to always have it ready and available on my laptop.

cheers and hope everyone is staying sane during this .. extraordinary year!

Hey Err0rr!
Welcome to the forums! :D

Currently the only option for online ATAR Notes books is EdUnlimited (https://edunlimited.com/). EdUnlimited includes ALL notes currently being sold physically by ATAR Notes right now. This includes:
- ATAR Notes Subject Notes
- ATAR Notes Topic Tests
- ATAR Notes Text Guides (For English)

I hope this helps!

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

I can't speak for GloPol but I have friends who did Revs this year and found the Complete Course Notes really useful!

I have not looked at the books, but for Revs my teacher was quite critical of the way it set it out. However, one of my classmates used the Revs book and said it was really useful. So I think from this that it was useful as a supplementary tool rather than a textbook, if you understand.

This is a Q for legal studies (HSC family law essay)

"To what extent does the law encourage cooperation to resolve conflict in families?"

How do I answer a question like this and link it back to at least 1 contemporary issue in family law?

If anyone has any advice/tips please answer back!!

Thanks   :)

Hi,
This isn't the place to ask this kind of question: it won't get the views of the people you really want to answer it, either. If you go to https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?board=472.0 (the HSC Legal Studies board) and click the 'new topic' button, then paste your question in there, with a relevant title (e.g. 'Family law essay question'), you should get a better answer. :)

I believe it might be possible to do so - best to ask your maths teachers and/or school if it is possible. :)

best atar subject combinations.

There really isn’t a “best” ATAR combination as it’s very much a personal thing.

Things you need to consider (I’m taking it you’re a Victorian doing VCE, based on your previous posts):
- you need to take an English subject (so one of the above: English, EAL, English Language or Literature).
- you need to take at least 3 other subjects and pass a total of 16 units for your VCE
- take subjects you require as prerequisites for future uni courses e.g. if you’re deadset on taking undergrad med in Victoria, you’ll need to take Chem. Heads up: Many STEM and commerce courses will require Methods or maths of some description.
- take subjects you enjoy (rather than for scaling). Trust me - VCE is a marathon and doing subjects you hate will feel like fingernails on a chalkboard (apart from English, which is compulsory).
- some combinations of subjects e.g. all 3 maths, may not be able to count in your top 4 subjects, so beware of those.
- occasionally there are subjects which have other prerequisites e.g Algorithmics and Specialist have methods as a prereq.
- study design will be your best friend in terms of figuring out what subjects look interesting to you. Google “VCE Study design” or “VCAA study design” - note: they may not cover 2022 or onwards yet but the content generally is very similar between study designs. (Link is here.)

Edit: small addition of study design link from VCAA.

Hey everyone.

Is it okay to post your assignments in different state forums?
For example, If I wanted my Physics assignment checked, could I put it VCE and HSC, despite me doing the QCE study structure?

Thanks,

Hi there,

So i want to apply for a med and was wondering if universities look at your subjects that much. I'm doing Methods, English, Physics, Chemistry and Legal Studies and was considering doing VET Chinese as i would gain Level 3 Certificate and say 'i can speak Chinese'. DO VET subjects look bad on application (realistically) and i just do Further Mathematics to keep it safe, or do they not look at subjects too much, even if it is VET

Welcome to ATAR Notes!

Is it the VCE VET Applied Language course you're talking about?

When applying to courses in Australia, the universities only look at your scores in the prerequisite subjects for courses (e.g. if you've achieved a 25 in any English), so you can pretty much take whatever subject combinations you like.

According to VCAA:
Quote from: VCAA
A VCE VET study score may be counted as one of the student’s best four studies (the ‘primary four’) or counted as a fifth or sixth study increment if it is not one of the student’s three highest scores other than for an English study.

I'd encourage you to go with the subject you think you'll enjoy the most :)

Hey guys! I recently got ATARNotes and came across this thread which had a list of files and resources with an attachment sign in the top right but idk how to download any of them. There's so many useful guides that could help me but unfortunately I'm not too sure how to use this site.

It was Math Methods Resources, it is supposed to have links to posts where people say they have "attached a file" but I can't really click anywhere to download it.

Hi everyone, when should we be starting exam revision and what in particular should I be doing.  Any tips would be great, as I dont really have a checklist to go by.
Thanks

A couple of questions:

What does the notify button do? I’ve clicked this for a couple of pages but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

What do all the little symbols next to topics mean?

Whenever I try to use the search bar, it says ‘database error: please try again’ and doesn’t show any search results. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if this is an problem with the forum.

Hello!!!

Good questions!

1. Notify is meant to send you an email when there's a reply to a topic of that thread. Unfortunately, something broke on the forum and those emails aren't happening.

2. The symbol next to the topic? I'm personally not sure of those aside from appearance (they seem to be called message icons anyways) - I guess you could use them kind of like urgent/important or questions, or just for fun. (unless you meant the quick moderation buttons that moderators have - if you see these please tell me - that shouldn't happen) :)

3. No, search is also broken - you're definitely not doing anything wrong! :) (this likely has something to with the technical parts of the forum, just like 1)

Hope this helps!! :)

I meant the symbols to the left of each item in the list of unread posts, but I realised there’s a key on that page that I somehow missed.

Y'ALL HOW DO YOU EDIT POSTS?!?!

I would really like to make a continuous post over time, but I just want to edit it, not keep commenting under it, or inserting quotes, etc. How do I just edit the same original post I had?

hmm not sure what's going on here - are the edits visible after clicking preview?

I recommend copying your text before pressing the preview button in case it disappears (particularly if it's been a while since you started typing) so you know you won't have to retype it all.

I was able to work it out thankyou! Turns out there's two (??) modify buttons for some weird reason and I was clicking the wrong one lmfao. I'm only just getting started on ATARnotes so 🤷🏼‍♀️ thanks though, I think I might start saving my stuff on word as well!
