Any TIPS so I can learn the course ahead during the holidays especially since next year is a new study design and the textbook (the Heinemann) hasn't been published yet?
Thanks  :)

Just relax and enjoy your holidays mate, there's plenty of time to learn the course during the year

Funny how they say the book won't be published till January of next year, yet my Heinmann Chem 2 textbook arrived today!?  ???
It's also funny how i tried entering my code into pearsonplaces.com.au/activate and they accepted the code, but won't let me view the ebook because apparently "the book is not yet published", lmao what? The book's right in front of me, m8. The website's havin a giggle.
One thing I've noticed is that DNA isn't mentioned anywhere in the book! :( not even in the glossary or the index! i already studied and finished the DNA section in my other heinmann chem book (previous study design) and enjoyed it  >:(
I'm excited to dig into this new book though  ;D

Oh what ! That's so strange, also did you order your textbook with Pearson ? Or your schools book store?

I ordered it from Pearson. Now that I think about it, I really hope my class uses this book next year or I'm screwed lol. That goes for all my other subjects aswell, I bought all my textbooks without knowing what we'd need to use in class next year (oops). I hope we use Heinmann for Physics and Chem, and either Cambridge or Jacaranda for Spesh, Further and Methods. I also see absolutely no reason as to why they would remove DNA from the course, I tried finding any info related to that on the VCAA website but couldn't find anything. I'll have to ask my teacher next year; though, if anyone has any idea/theories, I'd love to know!

Cambridge is supposed to be better for Methods. (more challenging, ties with chief accessor?) For Physics, our school doesn't use a textbook and tells us to buy a study guide because the textbook is full of 'fluff'.

Hint hint: Michael Evans is the chief assessor :) (Has been for like 5 years lol)

Hi all,

I'd just thought I'd chip in on what I did during my Summer holidays.

For chem, I completed all the Revision chapters from Year 11 in the Year 12 Chemistry Book - I'm not completely aware of the study design changes in terms of what Revision Material will remain the same, but I assume that generally, the first ~5 chapters will remain the same (in no particular order, topics covered include revisiting redox, stoich, learning gravimetric and volumetric analysis [applications of stoich] and revising acids and bases). I also read ahead in terms of Chapters 6-8, which, under the old study design, were instrumentation techniques. I am aware that this has been moved to Unit 2, so I'd just read ahead on the topics replacing chapters 6-8. Once I get ahold of copies of the 1/2 and 3/4 textbooks for the new study design, I'll be able to better inform you on what I recommend you do.

I found that this significantly reduced the worry early on when school starts again, and definitely helped in me overcoming and managing my workload throughout the term.

Hope this helps in anyway (soz old study design haha) and all the best in everyone's studies for 2017! :)
