Considering a transfer - BSci Structure

Hi All,

I’m after a bit of help with subject selection and course advice.

I’ve previously completed another degree and started the BCom part time late last year. I was bored at work and wanted a challenge and to try something different.

Turns out I enjoyed the maths subject I took much more than anything I’ve studied before. I’m using my breadth subjects to do more maths and try some physics as well. I was thinking of trying to transfer to the BSci if I do well in both.

If I did transfer I’d want to do all the subjects related to the stats and pure maths majors which I think works out. I can also do the old finance major as breadth as I can get a requisite waiver for Finance 1.

Do you see any issues with the course plan below? It seems to give me plenty of options down the track in either pure maths / statistics or even finance. I pretty much want to study as much maths as I can.

This is what I’ve come up with:

Level 1
MAST10005 / Calculus 1
MAST10006 / Calculus 2
MAST10007 / Linear Algebra
PHYC10005 / Physics 1: Fundamentals
PHYC10004 / Physics 2: Physical Science & Technology

Level 2
MAST20004 / Probability
MAST20005 / Statistics
MAST20026 / Real Analysis
MAST20009 / Vector Calculus
MAST20022 / Group Theory and Linear Algebra
FNCE20001 / Business Finance

Level 3
MAST30001 / Stochastic Modelling
MAST30020 / Probability for Inference
MAST30025 / Linear Statistical Models
MAST30027 / Modern Applied Statistics
MAST30005 / Algebra
MAST30021 / Complex Analysis
MAST30026 / Metric & Hilbert Spaces
MAST30011 / Graph Theory
MAST30012 / Discrete Mathematics
MAST30024 / Geometry
FNCE30001 / Investments
FNCE30002 / Corporate Finance
FNCE30007 / Derivative Securities

Also, would you recommend level 2 Differential Equations and /or Discrete Maths and Operations Research instead of all the pure maths major electives (MAST30011 / 12 / 24)?

Keen to get your feedback.

Thanks for your help :)

The course plan looks good to me.
You would satisfy the requirements for both the Pure Maths specialisation and the Statistics/Stochastic Processes specialisation within the major in Mathematics and Statistics.

Also, would you recommend level 2 Differential Equations and /or Discrete Maths and Operations Research instead of all the pure maths major electives (MAST30011 / 12 / 24)?

I'd probably suggest doing DEs over third year Discrete.
But it really depends on what your plans are for after your BSc.
