hey guys have any of you done or know of using Avatar as a related text for the area of study of discovery?
do you recommend it or not?
if so what things did you discuss and was it good?

Hi Michelle,
Avatar actually sounds like a really really good related text. It was actually recommended by the English Teacher's Association (Page 13 here) but I haven't seen anyone use it yet. It's also an excellent choice because there is a lot of analysis and perspective on the film out there. Most of the perspectives are from film students/education, but that's useful nonetheless! Especially, if you aren't afraid of the film jargon and can make it your own. I think that's a fantastic choice.
