How many examples do we need; per paragraph for a context piece?

Typically, I do my first paragraph using the ideas of my focus text, then two more paragraphs, with one main example each ... then weaving a link between that and my focus text in to it.

Is that okay, or should I try and use multiple examples per paragraph?

There is no specific number of examples that you should aim and include in each paragraph. As long as you feel like you have sufficient enough ideas to extract from your examples in that paragraph. If you feel like one example in each paragraph is enough to write a detailed/complex essay then smooth sailing  :)
