What does your ATAR Score mean to you?

I've been so caught up in doing exams that I've forgotten the significance of an ATAR SCORE. After having doubts about my english essays, i spent most of the three hours wondering where i'd end up if i didn't achieve the ATAR score that I wanted. It only occurred to me now, that number wasn't what I really wanted... it was what my parents wanted for me. Now that brings about the common misconception that your atar score determines the success of your future, how much money you're going to make and all aspects of your life in general. I know every1s been trying to predict their results but are we all forgetting why were here? So I'm putting this question out there....What does your ATAR Score mean to you?

Nothing but an acceptance to my course.
Ancient Persian Proverb; " I Wept because i had no Shoes, until i saw a man with no feet!"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.
-Martin Niemoller, a german pastor

An ATAR score for me means that I get into the dream course I want. Of course it isn't the end of the world if that doesnt happen.

What if your dream course requires 60? Would you be happy with 60?

Very little, if truth be told. I don't know what, where or when I'll be doing at uni. I haven't applied this year, and I honestly have no idea when I will be applying, which country I'll end up doing uni in, or what area I'm going to study. I'm only working hard right now for personal pride i.e. to achieve the best I can, and to keep my options open for the future.

and duxing my school would be nice :)

Well anyone will feel a tad disappointed if you don't meet your own expectations but I can have the satisfaction of saying I worked my ass off and gave it my all.

ATAR not that relevant, I have enough SEAS's to sink a ship, hello Access Melbourne Biomedicine with ATAR of 88!
haha Lucky. I only have "underrepresented" status so I doubt that'll do much.

Will just have to get a 98 enter :(  Easier said than done unfortunately.

But I want a good ATAR so I can prove that I'm a hard-worker and can do really well (show all the doubters!) and also to satisfy the needs of my course.
2010 ATAR: 98.35 - Psychology [50] Media Studies [47
2011-'13: Bachelor of Biomedicine [Neuroscience Major] at Melbourne Uni
2014-'17: Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Melbourne Uni

same here

and yitzi i agree

even if my course was a 70, i want a 90 to give me HARD EVIDENCE that says:

Kotza, the 23847239487 essays you have written, 324854 hours neglected chilling with mates etc has been rearded by a 42.50 ATAR for example.

Im doing it for pride more than to get into my course.

I really hate it that my family associate people with enter scores =="
They'll be like "do you want to end up like that person who got 60s?" or "work hard and get 90s so you can be successful like that other person". For that reason, i don't even want to tell my family my atar score just to avoid being used as an example for something. Is that bad?  :-[

Not too much, really, on a course entry level.

On a personal level... quite a bit.

This year's really pushing my limits, I'm working as hard as I can to get away from how my parents have ended up living. I think I would be really happy, whatever I got. Testing my limits though... makes me want to do well, if that makes sense.

I want to get into my course (which needs an 89), but I'm aiming for higher than that...reasons:
-Prove to myself that I am capable of achieving highly
-Pride
-Show up all those arrogant b*****s at school who think they're better than me because they're orange and bleached
-Make my parents proud
-Maybe get a scholarship
Guess I'm just programmed to want to get good marks :S
2009 - Psychology (44)
2010 - English (45), German (42), Revolutions (37), Geography (42), Legal Studies (38)
ATAR - 98.55
2011 - (Probably) Arts at Melbourne Uni

This makes me sad :( It can be hard to remember that our scores do not define us! I'm sorry that your parents are like this :(
