Have officially dropped Physics. Could not stand the subject -,- Anyways, still indecisive as to whether I should do Psychology or Specialist Maths. I feel a bit more inclined to do Psychology, because I fear I may find Spesh too hard/time consuming.

How's peoples' 3+4s going? Nearly finished Unit 3 Biology so I'm excited about unit 4. Further Maths is great!
how are u doing in methods ? if u're doing well then give gma a try?

I'm thankfully doing okay on both 3/4s (although my immunity sac was a big fail for the entire cohort). We started Unit 4 for both bio and legal so I think we're a bit ahead than everyone else.

You can pick up Psychology at Unit 3, but you can't do that with Specialist. Give it a go for Unit 2 and then decide.

I'm doing quite well at Methods actually. With very very minimal studying I'm getting 90%+. I did quite well on my exam too, and I literally studied 10 minutes because I was immersed in work for a Bio + Further Maths SAC.

I was thinking of doing GMA Unit 2 over this next semester, and I'd be doing it via Distance Ed. But then again I would have loved the extra time to be studying for Biology and Further.. I really don't know. Advice??

Really? I know many people who didn't do 1+2 GMA and are doing Spesh 3+4.. but I would definitely never do Spesh without at least 1 unit of GMA. Which unit would be better to do?

Well, none of the stuff I've covered so far in Unit 1 has any relevance whatsoever to 3/4, except complex numbers

By the way, my school doesn't offer Spesh because there aren't a sufficient number of students to open a class.. so I'd be forced to do it by distance ed and get a tutor. I'm already going to have Methods + Chem tutor and Medentry classes, so I'll literally have very little time to properly study... that's another reason why I don't want to do Specialist..

Yeah I would do unit 2 because anything I don't cover in Unit 1 GMA would probably be covered in Methods, right?

You mean 3/4 spesh? I definitely feel it'd be worth doing over no subject at all, especially since it scales like crazy. I'm sure with a bit of effort you could definitely get 30-35 raw, which scales to
45-50 or something ridiculous like that.

And Im not sure if all schools do the same unit 1 topics so you might need to check what distance ed covers

But I'd need a tutor, and too much time would be taken up from me to be able to study. I mean, I'd have PLENTY of free periods because I'd only be doing 3 subjects at school if I do Spesh (Chem + English + Methods), but that still would be insufficient time for me to study. I mean, I'd LOVE to do Specialist Maths and I would have done Specialist Maths over Physics or Psych from the beginning of the year, had it been offered at my school. I mean, it isn't practical to do Spesh without a tutor, doing it by Distance Ed..

I'd work hard for Spesh and hope for a 35, which would literally scale up to like 47 o.O

I'm doing alright with my 3/4s. Have had a fair few methods and chem SACs already and I think I'm doing quite well in those subjects.
Spesh 1/2 isn't half bad either

I forgot a lot of schools don't offer GMA. I stand corrected. :P

For picking subjects, I think ignoring perceived difficulty and scaling is probably the best approach. You'll be putting a lot of work into any VCE subject. Pick the subject that you think you'd enjoy more.

I guess it depends on your learning style, you don't really need a tutor to get through VCE. I found Distance Ed Spesh is excellent however. Also you don't need Unit 1/2 GMA to do Spesh - I can vouch at least that distance ed spesh doesn't assume that you've done GMA. I will also say that the distance ed spesh teachers are also excellent, and if you ask them for help they will help you a lot (whether that be by phone, email etc.). It does require a lot of self motivation, so if you don't really enjoy the content (enough to go out and read about it yourself), then I would be somewhat wary of doing distance ed spesh. You still do have to hand in work every week for marking to a teacher, so that might end up being motivation enough to do the work required at least.
