Not too sure what you learn in science math as opposed to commerce math but if you've done: time series analysis/linear regression/hypothesis tests(1+ populations, ordinal or numerical data, anova/Kruskall-wallis tests/all the wilcoxon tests etc). & think in particular you'll need all the shit like doing things like confidence intervals for time series analyses, autoregressive models, autoregressive distributed lag models, finite distributed lag models Etc

The lack of finance knowledge would probably be a big issue. Algorithmic trading is for commerce kids wants to learn about computer stuff instead of computer kids wanting to learn about commerce stuff. So if you don't know the investments things i suspect it would be very difficult. I would find business finance lectures for the first topic of the subject ( which is basically pre-investments) and learn that and then beg the faculty to let you do investments or something. However if they think it's a hard subject which builds on background knowledge they might not let you do it without the pre-reqs leaving you the option of summer finance 1/principles of finance - sem 1 bus fi/cfdm - sem 2 investments. It's definitely stuff that requires background knowledge beyond just formulas. Especially in algorithmic trading understanding the capital asset pricing model and market efficiency at a deeper level is important .
But your wam is really high so I suspect they might give you an exception if you promise to self teach the pre req knowledge

Fortunately for me I don't have to speak with the faculty because the plan is to self teach the entire lot, including algorithmic trading! I am just trying to figure out where to start my quest and it sounds like the answer is I'm gonna have to start with the investments prereqs. Oh also I am graduating in December and so I have no space to take any of this officially anyway. Thanks for your advice though! It's still helpful since I know very little about finance (and so I don't know what I don't know!)

- 2015 Semester 2, Physics 2: Advanced Exam Answers (released by the department)
- 2016 Semester 1, Physics 1: Advanced Exam Paper

So I'm doing a bachelor of science course, and you know how there's a section in your study plan for "science or breadth" subjects where you have 2 spaces - I was wondering if I could move one of the science subjects I had in that section up to the Science section at the top, allowing me to undertake another breadth? I'm guessing I need to go through the enrolment variation thingo, but does anyone have any experience with this?

Yep you definitely can, just submit a request on the enrolment variation, and as long as you have the space for that particular level subject it will be approved. I did it just a couple of days ago

Alright thanks! Going through the enrolment variation form, I'm slightly confused, do I choose the 'Course Variation' or 'Add Subject/Requisite Waiver or Request Overload' option?

I got my unconditional offer letter for dentistry today and am still waiting for my unconditional offer letter for medicine. I want to do medicine so what do I do with the dentistry one? Do I just ignore it? Something else?

EDIT: Resolved.

hey guys,

this probably sounds weird but would it be possible to do all my remaining breadth subjects in 3rd year? due to some prereq technicalities
I can't do some of the units I'm interested in till 2018 because I need to do the required subjects in sem 2 2017

As long you do at least six 3rd year subjects in your degree, you can you fill your last 2 subjects with almost anything (assuming you aren't overloading)

Mine went to my spam folder. If you used a hotmail account like me, your confirmation email probably went to spam for you too.

Hi guys,

I've just completed my 1st year and I've been faced with the selection of QM2 or Intro Econometrics. I'm weary that econometrics is seemingly harder and focuses purely on regression whereas QM2 has a more holistic approach. I didn't do so well in QM1 and I was thinking the summer break could be an excellent opportunity to improve in this field. I believe the 2019 intake for honours for both Economics and Finance requires Econometrics and Basic econometrics will not suffice ( therefore intro econometrics is a must in the 2nd year). I'm hoping to find work once I've completed 3rd year but is it worthwhile to do Intro Econometrics to keep the honours door open?
